Overview

Are you as passionate about the development of people and leaders as you are about products and systems? Then Jobber might be the place for you. We’re looking for a new Senior Manager, Software Engineering for our Production Engineering Group.

Jobber exists to help people in small businesses be successful. We work with small home service businesses to transform how service is delivered through technology, enabling them to quote, schedule, invoice, and collect payments from their customers while delivering a professional customer experience. We empower teams to run their businesses how, where, and when they want.

Our culture emphasizes transparency, inclusivity, collaboration, and innovation. We have recognitions and awards for our culture and growth, and our leadership team brings decades of industry experience. We support employees with onboarding resources, tutorials, hackathons, buddies, and mentor/mentee opportunities to grow professionally.

The Team

Jobber’s Engineering team is seeking a Senior Leader to spearhead the Production Engineering Team. The team’s mission is to ensure Jobber scales through performant, stable, and quality software and is composed of McCloud (Site Reliability), Dev Acceleration, Backend Foundations, AI Foundations and Trust Engineering Teams. The Product Engineering team creates software that delivers value to hundreds of thousands of users worldwide. You’ll balance major priorities with adaptability and actively engage with problems alongside the team.

The systems teams build tools and platforms that support other engineering teams, covering hosting infrastructure on AWS, a shared mobile application platform, and a web and mobile design system. Your customers are Jobber’s engineers, and your goal is to help them be faster and more effective to create a great customer experience.

The role

Reporting to the Director, Software Engineering, the Senior Manager, Software Engineering - Production Engineering will manage Engineering Managers and Individual Contributors to support and develop their skills and careers, as we empower small businesses.

As the Senior Engineering Leader of our Production Engineering Group, you will bring experience in developing high-performance engineering teams and contributing to department and company-wide strategic initiatives, from the perspective of supporting internal technical customers. You will also manage Jobber’s infrastructure budget, AWS deployment, and the interface between systems teams and stream-aligned teams as they work to accelerate engineering across Jobber.

You’ll collaborate with peers from Design, Product Management, Technical Program Management, and the rest of the Engineering Leadership team to ensure the foundations we build help us deliver delightful software for home and field service companies.

The Senior Manager, Software Engineering will
  • Live and breathe operational excellence. You will work with your managers to help them master their crafts while collaborating to build extraordinary experiences and systems.
  • Be committed to the success of the teams within your group. You will set goals, conduct regular 1-on-1s, provide constructive feedback and coaching, and support career direction as a mentor and coach.
  • Develop a world-class group of teams. You’ll participate in recruiting events and the hiring process while leveling up your internal team and implementing new processes to develop a world-class Engineering department.
  • Remove roadblocks and build guardrails. You’ll create and maintain an environment where people can rapidly produce top-quality work that helps our customers succeed.
  • Collaborate with other stakeholders across the business. You’ll work with Product Management and GTM teams to find the best solutions in Jobber for small businesses.
  • Get involved quarterly, writing software with your teams to stay ahead of changing technology.
  • Utilize AI tools to enhance development practice. We use AI to complement human skills and augment productivity, not replace human creativity or decision-making.
To be successful, you should have
  • A track record of success as an established software engineer with leadership experience directing multiple teams and Engineering Managers in delivering quality software.
  • Ability to participate in technical conversations and guide teams in solving hard problems, even if you are not the most technical person in the room.
  • Love for creating new and innovative products with a balance of product and systems thinking.
  • Experience in an agile environment, leading teams through change while applying critical and creative problem solving.
  • Effective written and oral communication. Transparency and open dialogue are key to success in coaching and discussions.
  • Strong collaboration skills to understand goals and develop plans to achieve them.
  • A thoughtful approach to performance management.
  • Experience using developer AI tools like Copilot or Cursor.
  • Public cloud experience, preferably AWS. You will be accountable for ensuring AWS deployment is performant, secure, and cost-efficient, including budgeting, forecasting, and vendor management.
  • Comfort with budgets and infrastructure spend management.
Highly Desired, but not a dealbreaker
  • Familiarity with Ruby on Rails, TypeScript, and/or React in production; React Native for mobile is a plus.
  • Familiarity with GraphQL, API layers, and optimization.
  • Some AWS knowledge (Lambda, ECS, EC2).
  • Proven experience leading 3+ teams as a manager of managers.
  • Familiarity with GTM tooling like Salesforce and HubSpot.
  • Operations experience, including on-call rotation and incident response.
  • Design systems or mobile development experience; engineering or management with mobile apps or design systems is a plus.
Compensation

At Jobber, compensation is transparent and competitive. This role has a minimum annual salary of $196,300 CAD, a midpoint of $230,900 CAD, and a maximum of $265,600 CAD, designed to reflect progression from learning to excellence. Our range supports growth and long-term impact, with offers aligned to experience and potential.

We are committed to transparency and open conversations about compensation. If you have questions, we’re happy to discuss them during the hiring process.

What you can expect from Jobber
  • Extensive benefits including health, retirement matching, and stock options.
  • Dedicated Talent Development team with coaching, learning, and leadership programs.
  • Breaks and wellness allowances, including vacation, rest days, and parental leave top-ups.
  • Opportunity to contribute to a large-impact industry.
