Capital One is seeking a Senior Manager of Risk Management to lead and innovate on high‑impact risk initiatives within the Card Risk Team. You will partner with business units to identify risks, perform quantitative analysis, and drive risk informed decisions that protect profitability and regulatory alignment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Military experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience working in risk management or financial services.
  • At least 4 years of program management experience.
  • At least 4 years of experience supporting, partnering and interacting with internal business clients.
  • Masters Degree.
  • 6+ years of Project Management experience leading cross functional projects and programs in Risk.
  • 6+ years of program management experience leading cross functional risk programs.
  • 6+ years of financial services risk management experience.
  • 3+ years experience in Agile or design thinking.
  • 4+ years of Compliance, Legal, Audit, or first or second line Risk Management experience.
  • 4+ years of Project or ProcessManagement experience.
  • 3+ years of experience in reporting and analyzing data.
  • CRMA or CRCM certification.
  • PMP, Lean, Agile or Six Sigma certification.

Responsibilities

  • Work with business teams and other key stakeholders to help develop well-designed products, processes, marketing, and supporting technologies and implement risk management practices; support our business partners on risk / return trade-off decisions
  • Lead risk framework discussions and drive creative solutions to improve the risk profile
  • Participate in risk forums and business reporting routines and contribute to continuous improvement of risk management practices
  • Lead ad-hoc projects to improve processes or control environment to mitigate risks
  • Synthesize data and reporting; perform analysis and bring valuable proactive business insights through evaluation of data provided by team analysts
  • Drive and deliver results and improvements in line with the business’ well managed and risk agendas
  • Stay abreast of the changing regulatory environment and understand the impacts to the business areas that you support
  • Collaborate effectively across multiple levels and organizations
  • Collaborate effectively between risk, compliance and other business support functions (e.g., legal, privacy) (e.g., operations, risk management, enterprise management, etc.) to achieve objectives and support the organization in delivering on top priorities in a timely and efficient manner
  • Support, partner, and interact with internal business clients
  • Build relationship and collaborate with key stakeholders, driving cross-functional opportunities to grow brand, processes and an enhanced risk management environment

Senior Manager, Risk Management

As a Senior Risk Manager on Capital One’s Card Risk Team you will apply your risk management, project management and analytical skills to our highest profile risk initiatives - working hand in hand to identify and mitigate potential risks to Capital One. Senior Risk Managers are at the front line of defense to ensure our company remains stable and profitable.

Sr. Risk Managers lead, advise and innovate on top transformational initiatives across the businesses in the first line of defense and are responsible for working with business partners to identify and mitigate potential risks to Capital One. You will collaborate with a team of risk managers responsible for working across the enterprise to develop and implement cutting edge risk solutions to ensure Capital One’s continued growth and success.

Sr. Risk Managers have a high level of exposure across lines of business and have the opportunity to partner with Executives and their teams to identify potential risks in an open, collaborative environment where new ideas and solutions are both welcomed and rewarded.

Basic Qualifications

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

McLean, VA: $177,700 - $202,800 for Sr. Risk Manager

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
