Job summary

AMSC in the United States seeks a Senior Manager, Projects to lead and oversee industrial and utility-scale electrical power system programs across the organization. You will provide strategic leadership, drive on-time, on-budget delivery, and coordinate with customers and internal teams to ensure project excellence.

You will manage budgets, schedules, risk, and cross-functional resources, mentor project managers, and report progress to executives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or related technical field.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in engineering project management.
  • Master’s degree or MBA strongly preferred.
  • Leadership overseeing complex, cross-functional initiatives preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead portfolio of industrial and utility-scale electrical power systems projects from initiation through completion.
  • Serve as primary contact for key clients and stakeholders, managing expectations and reporting progress.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Marketing, Engineering, Manufacturing, and Service teams to meet delivery milestones.
  • Lead the development of integrated project schedules, task assignments, resource plans, risk assessments, and contingency strategies.
  • Oversee budgeting, cost management, and financial reporting for all assigned projects.
  • Drive standardization and continuous improvement across project management practices and documentation.
  • Lead cross-functional program reviews and regularly report status updates to executive leadership and customers.
  • Identify and escalate project risks, issues, or delays and lead resolution strategies.
  • Coach and mentor project managers and team members, promoting a high-performance culture.
  • Influence company direction through strategic planning and customer engagement initiatives.
  • Travel up to 25% to support relationships and reviews.

Overview

The Senior Manager, Projects is responsible for leading and overseeing the successful execution of industrial and utility-scale electrical power system programs and complex projects across the organization. This role provides strategic leadership and operational oversight to ensure on-time, on-budget delivery aligned with customer and business goals. The Director will work cross-functionally with internal teams and external stakeholders to drive project excellence, foster continuous improvement, and support long-term organizational success.

Functions
  • Provide leadership and direction for a portfolio of industrial and utility-scale electrical power systems projects from initiation through completion, ensuring alignment with company strategy.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for key clients and stakeholders, managing expectations, reporting progress, and ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Marketing, Engineering, Manufacturing, and Service teams to evaluate customer requirements, develop project specifications, and align resources to meet delivery milestones.
  • Lead the development of integrated project schedules, task assignments, resource plans, risk assessments, and contingency strategies.
  • Oversee budgeting, cost management, and financial reporting for all assigned projects, ensuring profitability and adherence to approved budgets.
  • Drive standardization and continuous improvement across project management practices, tools, and documentation.
  • Lead cross-functional program reviews and regularly report status updates to executive leadership, customers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Identify and escalate project risks, issues, or delays and lead resolution strategies.
  • Coach and mentor project managers and team members, promoting a high-performance, accountable culture.
  • Influence company direction by contributing to strategic planning, operational reviews, and customer engagement initiatives.
  • Travel up to 25% to support customer relationships, project reviews, or onsite coordination as needed.
Education – Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or a related technical field required; Master’s degree or MBA strongly preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in engineering project management.
  • Leadership overseeing complex, cross-functional initiatives preferred.
  • Proven track record of delivering large-scale industrial or utility projects on time and within budget.
Required Skills, Competencies, Authorities and Training Needs
  • Deep experience with project and program management methodologies, tools, and best practices.
  • Strong financial and business acumen; experience managing multimillion-dollar budgets.
  • Ability to lead and influence cross-functional teams without direct authority.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, including executive-level presentation abilities.
  • Demonstrated success in customer-facing roles with the ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships.
  • Skilled in strategic planning, forecasting, and risk management.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and project management tools such as MS Project, P6, Smartsheet, or equivalent.
  • Engineering or technical background with understanding of industrial and utility systems required.
