Job summary

BAL is seeking a Senior Product Manager to define and deliver industry-changing products in a fast-paced, hybrid work environment in Richardson, TX. You will partner with business teams to drive new product development and manage ROIs across portfolios.

The ideal candidate has 5–7 years in product management, strong analytics, and experience with mobile and web apps. BAL supports a comprehensive benefits package and a collaborative, growth-focused culture.

Qualifications

  • Ability to learn and use product management software, such as Rally, JIRA, or other applications.
  • Expertise in the use of Microsoft applications; specifically Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio
  • Knowledge of Agile SCRUM and Lean methodologies
  • Ability to learn and analyze data from web analytics tools like Heap, Google Analytics, Omniture or Mixpanel
  • Knowledge of wireframing or prototyping tools such as Balsamiq, Sketch, or Invision desired
  • Experience with qualitative and quantitative research methods, such as pivot tables, surveys, and focus groups
  • Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills

Responsibilities

  • Executes on the discovery phase of the SDLC and identifies feature needs.
  • Applies lean methodology to define problems, hypotheses, test and learn cycles.
  • Leads Lean Canvas evaluation and communicates business value.
  • Coaches team on SDLC, Lean, and Agile processes.
  • Uses data/web analytics to drive measurable product gains.

OVERVIEW:

The Senior Product Manager, Individual Contributor will work in a dynamic, fast paced environment, to define and create industry changing products. We are looking for a high energy, results driven individual, excited to work with internal business teams to drive new product development, and can contribute to critical high value projects that will define and maintain our products. The Senior Product Manager must be an exceptional role model for the team. They must be able to consistently and successfully deliver quality products and features without supervision under competing deadlines.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES (Under the supervision of the Senior Manager, Product Manager):
  • Executes on the discovery phase of the SDLC through exploring business problem statements
    and pain points, and identifying possible feature/functionality needs to address them
  • Employs lean methodology to define business problems, form hypotheses, test and validate
    solutions, and continue with the build > measure > learn cycle. Successfully releases “MVP”
    features which delight the end-user, and then strategically iterates upon them as required.
  • Champions and leads the Lean Canvas evaluation process for the team, setting the example
    on how to effectively communicate business value, competitive advantage, cost, revenue, etc.
  • Provides coaching for the team on SDLC, Lean and Agile processes; is able to identify areas
    for process improvements within the team
  • Identifies complex product insights and relationships using data and web analytics which
    result in measurable product gains
  • Proficiently employs data and web analytics at every opportunity into their feature
    requirements, iteration and analysis; proactively reports back metrics on feature adoption &success post release
  • Collaborates with the UI/UX designer on wire frame iterations and user persona artifacts
  • Leads complex feature ROI analysis discussions with high-level business stakeholders in
    order to support a strong, measurable and successful roadmap
  • Provides robust competitive market analysis for all major feature proposals
  • Makes tradeoff and priority decisions across all Product Management portfolios and
    explains/defends those decisions to the business and clients when necessary.
  • Leads and oversees quality groomed backlog with prioritized user stories across all Product
    Management portfolios that are ready for execution by the development team.
  • Leads the team in bi-weekly sprint planning; leads the greater Products team in release
    planning exercises
  • Works closely with development & QA tech leads to collaborate on sprint and roadmap level
    decisions
  • Oversees the activities of the engineering team within the agile framework, participates in
    “Agile SCRUM rituals/ceremonies,” and ensures quality outcomes while meeting sprint
    commitments.
  • Collaborates with a vast number of different business stakeholders, builds quality
    relationships, participates in job shadowing activities & communicates timelines and
    activities to stakeholders and the business.
  • Can effectively demo new features to the business and explain product functionality.
  • Leads the collaboration with business stakeholders on User Acceptance Testing (UAT) to
    ensure features meet business expectations prior to release; monitors all UAT activity across
    portfolios and can report back on participation, reported defects and enhancement requests
  • Proactively and effectively plans and executes feature roll-out programs to ensure successful
    adoption of a new product or feature; works with client stakeholders where required on
    client-facing marketing and roll-out communications.
SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITIES (Under the supervision of the Product Manager):
  • Reports bugs found in product(s) through the appropriate channel.
  • Collaborates with the Support team when needed to answer product questions from the enduser
  • Completing robust third party product evaluations using weighted scorecard, as needed
  • Collaborating with other Departments within the IT organization, as needed
  • Working with Procurement on third party/vendor contract negotiations, as needed
  • Efficiently manages multiple projects with competing deadlines.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Ability to learn and use product management software, such as Rally, JIRA, or other
    applications.
  • Expertise in the use of Microsoft applications; specifically Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio
  • Knowledge of Agile SCRUM and Lean methodologies
  • Ability to learn and analyze data from web analytics tools like Heap, Google Analytics,
    Omniture or Mixpanel
  • Knowledge of wireframing or prototyping tools such as Balsamiq, Sketch, or Invision desired
  • Experience with qualitative and quantitative research methods, such as pivot tables, surveys,
    and focus groups
  • Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
Physical Requirements:
  • Able to maintain a sedentary position for up to 90% of the work day
  • Able to type and to grasp, grip, push and pull file drawers and doors
  • Able to walk and climb stairs or use elevator to coordinate with other departments
  • Able to bend, stoop, kneel and/or stand to access files and documents
  • Able to lift up to 25 lbs of files and/or boxes
Experience:
  • 5-7 years in product management desired
  • Experience managing projects and meeting timelines
  • Experience launching and maintaining iOS and Android mobile apps desired
Minimum Education Level:
  • BA/BS or MS degree or related subject matter experience and/or a BA/MA business degree
    with ability to communicate effectively with engineers about product details and technical
    options.
  • Product Management training in Agile, Pragmatic Marketing, or General Assembly desired
  • Project Management training desired
