Job summary

Onto Innovation is seeking a Senior Manager, Mechanical Engineering to lead advanced hardware and tooling for next-generation metrology instruments. You will drive the full lifecycle from concept through prototyping, testing, to release, working independently or with small teams.

Qualifications

• 7+ years as Controls, Mechanical, or Mechatronic Engineer.
• Master's degree or higher preferred.
• 5+ years in a leadership role preferred.
• Proficient in motion control, servo tuning, and automation mapping.
• Deep understanding of vibration analysis and isolation.
• Experience with clean, high-precision environments.

Responsibilities

• Define control architecture for motion systems (motors, drives, controllers).
• Experience with motion-control simulation and servo tuning.
• Design optical mounts and sub-micron adjustment mechanisms.
• Architect mechatronic systems selecting motors, sensors, and drives.
• Justify performance-based design metrics and document decisions.
• Finalize designs through product release for metrology instruments.
• Collaborate with Mechanical, Electrical, Software, Operations, and Manufacturing teams.
