Job description

About the Role

Hi, I’m Emily. I lead Payments and Fintech at Jane. I have spent most of my career in tech helping small businesses grow, get paid, and manage their finances. I am deep in embedded payments and fintech solutions and particularly passionate about health, healthcare, and overall wellness. I joined Jane earlier this year to grow and expand the suite of fintech products and build an exceptional team to help get the work done. I believe small, independent, personalized healthcare clinics are the way of the future and I’m excited to help the helpers along their journey.

Payments is one of the biggest, highest stake areas at Jane, processing billions of dollars annually and scaling fast. It touches how tens of thousands of clinics get paid and how their patients experience paying for care. With that, comes the wild wild west and we need to manage that risk, for the benefit of Jane and its customers. Trust, clarity, and decisiveness is the backbone of risk management - this role will own the operating system (people, processes, technology) that supports a scalable and balanced risk engine without compromising the exceptional experience Jane strives to provide its customers everyday.

What Impact We’re Looking for You to Make
  • Merchant risk policy: Onboarding criteria, verification standards, how exceptions get handled, escalation paths, and ongoing merchant monitoring.

  • Jane’s stated risk appetite: In partnership with Legal, Finance and the VP.

  • Portfolio losses and the risk reporting pack: Loss rate, approval rate, time-to-decision, dispute, win rate, including support finance in budgeting and forecasting losses.

  • Transaction monitoring strategy: Transaction rules, risk flags, review process, thresholds, time-to-decision and the false positive rate.

  • Dispute strategy and win rate: Determine the strategy for improving win-rates for our customers and preventing disputes in the first place.

  • The escalation, hold and offboarding decisions: You will have decision-making authority, but know when executive or legal sign-off will be needed.

  • Know a good merchant from a bad merchant. You have a spidey sense for identifying fraud or if a good merchant has gone bad.

  • Card network and Stripe compliance obligations. In partnership with Legal and the VP, you willmake recommendations to ensure Jane is protected and customers are aware of their obligations.

  • Systems and tooling strategy. We need an AI-forward thinker, not a resistor. You will be expected to reimagine the stack and manual processes as an AI-native system with agentic workflows. However, we want you to be opinionated about this and know where it is best for humans to step

What Experience We Need
  • 6+ years in payments risk, ideally have held a leadership or highly cross-functional role. Embedded payments at a software platform that carries liability is what we’re really after.

  • Expertise in payments, including working knowledge of acquiring, underwriting, chargebacks and transaction monitoring.

  • Comfortable with Stripe, especially Connect, or a comparable platform. Including a clear view of what it does and doesn’t do for you.

  • You can write a policy that people actually follow, and explain a hard decision to a clinic owner with compassion.

  • Strong enough with data to build your own reporting rather than waiting for someone to build it. Experience with SQL, Stripe Sigma, or similar is a plus.

  • You’re at ease being the only person doing this job for a while and you are excited about building a function.

If you don’t meet every single qualification but are excited about this role, we’d still love to hear from you.

More About Jane

Jane is a founder-led, high-growth SaaS company with a remote-first team working across Canada, the US, and the UK, united by our mission to help the helpers. This role is remote first. We are not hybrid.

We build the products and tools that thousands of clinics rely on every day to run their businesses, care for their patients, and grow their communities. That level of impact means every person at Jane plays an important role in how we show up for our customers. We’re all responsible for being deeply connected to their needs, obsessed with improving their experience, and proud of the difference our work makes in their day-to-day lives.

Jane is growing fast, and that growth brings exciting challenges that call for adaptability, resilience, learning agility, and humility. We’re proud of what we’ve built and quick to admit what we don’t know yet. We listen, learn, and adjust as we go. More than 70,000 businesses run on Jane which has 250,000+ practitioners interacting with our product on a daily basis and growth is continuing to accelerate.

Our goal isn’t just delivery - it’s delight. We move quickly, communicate openly, and solve real problems together. If you’re energized by ambiguity, motivated by impact, and eager to learn with others, you’ll thrive at Jane.

Compensation & Benefits

At Jane, we’re committed to paying fairly, clearly, and above all, paying for growth. This role has an annual salary range of $156,000 to $253,500 USD. While that is a large range, it is intentional. It reflects the full growth journey someone might take in the role, from developing skills early on to becoming highly proficient and ultimately achieving excellence.

Most new hires join at the accomplished stage, which for this role represents an annual salary of $185,300 USD. A starting salary below this typically indicates a candidate with strong potential who is still developing key skills. Salaries above this usually apply to existing team members who have made a significant impact and bring deep Jane-specific knowledge.

We believe in paying for growth. You’ll have regular career development conversations with your manager and your compensation will grow as you gain experience and contribute meaningfully to our mission.

Paying clearly is one of our compensation fundamentals. Watch this short video to learn how our salary bands are set. You’re also encouraged to ask questions about compensation at any point during the interview process.
