Job summary

Gables Search Group is seeking a Senior Manager of Payment Technology to lead a large, multi-location consumer organization modernizing its enterprise payments.

The role is highly visible, focusing on building the payments function, guiding a major processing transformation, and supporting high-volume transactions across physical locations and digital channels. Local candidates only to Chicago, IL or Bowling Green, KY; sponsorship is not available.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in enterprise payments, fintech, or payment platforms.
• Leadership of payment technology teams or large transformation programs.
• Deep knowledge of processors, gateways, acquiring banks, card networks, and settlement.
• Experience supporting high-volume, omnichannel payment environments.
• Exposure to PCI-DSS, tokenization, and encryption.

Responsibilities

• Build and lead a team of payment engineers, architects, analysts, and product owners.
• Define the enterprise payments technology strategy, architecture, and roadmap.
• Lead payment processor implementations, migrations, and modernization.
• Oversee payment gateways, APIs, transaction services, and third-party integrations.
• Support authorization, capture, settlement, refunds, chargebacks, and reconciliation.
• Direct POS, payment terminal, card-present, and digital payments capabilities.
• Ensure platforms are scalable, resilient, observable, and highly available.
• Establish PCI-DSS, tokenization, encryption, monitoring, and incident-response practices.
• Manage processors, acquiring banks, gateways, vendors, and implementation partners.
• Partner with Security, Finance, Compliance, Operations, and executive leadership.

• Experience supporting high-volume, omnichannel payment environments
• Strong understanding of POS technology, digital payments, APIs, and cloud architecture
• Expertise in PCI-DSS, payment security, tokenization, and encryption
• Proven ability to build teams and establish effective operating processes
• Comfortable balancing strategic leadership with detailed technical decision-making
• Effective communicator who can influence technical, business, and executive stakeholders
