Job summary

Howard University seeks an Assistant Director, Pre-Award to lead the outgoing subaward function within the SPO, Pre-Award. You will supervise staff and oversee risk assessments, ensuring policy-aligned, audit-ready administration of the portfolio.

The role reports to the Senior Director and collaborates with General Counsel, Compliance, Finance, and PIs to establish clear handoffs and accurate records across complex sponsor requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required with substantial sponsored programs experience.
• Minimum seven years in sponsored research administration or similar.
• Experience supervising staff and managing outgoing subawards.

Responsibilities

• Lead classification and review of subrecipient relationships.
• Oversee drafting, negotiation, and execution of subawards.
• Monitor risk assessments and pre-issuance controls.
• Ensure audit-ready records and clear handoffs to downstream owners.
