Job description

We are seeking a Senior Manager of Manufacturing Engineering to lead the manufacturing engineering function behind Anthro's advanced battery technologies, including our novel phase change electrolytes and the cells that contain them. This is a hands-on leadership role: you'll own the equipment, tooling, and production processes, grow the team behind them, and personally roll up your sleeves to take our lines from bench to pilot to commercial scale.

You'll manage a team of manufacturing and process engineers and partner closely with R&D, equipment suppliers, and external partners to industrialize our processes and lines from the Alameda pilot facility through to our planned commercial facility in Kentucky. You'll design and optimize the equipment, automation, and workflows that hit our yield, throughput, and cost targets, drive design-for-manufacturability back into the product, and make sure every line meets industry, quality, and safety standards. Anthro is growing fast, and we expect this role to grow with us as scope and complexity continue to evolve.

Responsibilities
  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of manufacturing and process engineers delivering on Anthro's scale-up initiatives
  • Own the manufacturing process, equipment, and tooling design for Proteus™ electrolyte production and cell manufacturing, partnering with R&D on design-for-manufacturability from pilot through commercial scale
  • Stand up preventive and predictive maintenance and equipment-reliability programs: TPM, CMMS-tracked PMs, spare-parts strategy, and calibration — and embed good manufacturing practices to maximize uptime, OEE, and first-time quality
  • Drive process and equipment optimization of the core cell-finishing steps, in particular electrolyte filling (precise dosing and wetting/soak) and formation (charge/discharge recipes and aging/end-of-line screening). Tune process windows and equipment to raise first-pass yield, cut cycle time and energy, and reduce scrap
  • Apply data-driven methods (SPC, Cp/Cpk, DOE, defect paretos), PFMEA, and control plans, together with lean/continuous-improvement, to improve process capability, de-bottleneck the line, and hit yield, throughput, OEE, and cost targets
  • Lead future Anthro electrolyte and cell production lines expansion, specifying and buying of equipment with vendors and automation partners, weighing technoeconomic trade-offs on CAPEX and throughput, and driving layout, installation, commissioning, and ramp (SOP) to stable operation
  • Own factory and site acceptance testing (FAT/SAT) and equipment qualification (IQ/OQ/PQ), managing punch-list closure and hands-on bring-up of pilot and commercial equipment
  • Lead industrialization and technology transfer of Anthro Proteus™ Electrolyte to commercial Li-battery manufacturing lines, with the SOPs, batch records, and documentation that anchor a robust quality management system
  • Lead process safety reviews (e.g., HAZOP) and ensure equipment and designs meet safety and regulatory requirements
  • Report progress and results to internal and leadership stakeholders
Requirements
  • 7+ years in a manufacturing or process engineering role, with experience in the battery and chemicals manufacturing industry
  • 3+ years managing or leading an engineering team
  • Hands-on experience with Li-ion unit processes and the production equipment behind them: cell assembly, electrolyte filling, and formation and Li battery materials production
  • Experience building and ramping Li-battery lines: managing equipment vendors and automation partners; leading FAT/SAT, equipment qualification (IQ/OQ/PQ), and commissioning; and taking equipment from installation to stable SOP against yield, throughput, and OEE targets
  • Demonstrated track record improving first-pass yield, cycle time, and scrap using data-driven methods: SPC, Cp/Cpk, DOE, PFMEA, and control plans (JMP/Minitab or similar); MES/ERP familiarity; Lean/Six Sigma
  • Strong manufacturing-engineering fundamentals: Knowledge on equipment, tooling, and automation design and selection, line and station layout, DFM/DFA. Reading and creating PFDs, P&IDs, GA drawings, and CAD are plus
  • Track record commercializing and scaling new products and technologies
  • B.S. or M.S. in mechanical, chemical, manufacturing, or industrial engineering, or a related field
  • Adaptive between hands-on individual contributor and team leader. Able to run multiple projects at once and hold the team accountable to deadlines and deliverables
  • An excellent communicator and team player who can manage projects and technical agreements across internal teams and external partners
  • Ambitious, with a ‘whatever it takes' attitude and a desire to grow with a fast-moving company
Benefits
  • Competitive salary and equity compensation commensurate with experience. Expected salary range for posted level is $180k-230k
  • 15 Vacation Days, 10+ Holidays, Sick time off
  • Full medical, dental, and vision coverage for team members, 60% coverage for dependents
  • 401k with match
  • Paid parental leave with flexible return-to-work policy
  • Diverse and inclusive work environment
