Job summary

Lake County is seeking a Manager of In-House Design to lead a staff of design engineers who prepare plans and specifications for DOT resurfacing, drainage, and maintenance projects. You will supervise, review, and coordinate technical work with engineers, consultants, regulators, and municipalities while guiding standards and practices.

The role emphasizes leadership, project coordination, and technical expertise in highway improvement projects, with collaboration across county and state

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field is required.
• PE license or equivalent considered; 15 years experience may substitute for PE.
• Valid Driver’s License with acceptable driving record required.
• Eight+ years of highway/transportation planning experience with some supervisory experience required.

Responsibilities

• Supervise design engineer staff in plans, specs, and estimates for DOT preservation and maintenance projects.
• Manage bid letting process for LCDOT projects that are not federally funded.
• Maintain design standards, specifications, and plan guidelines for the DOT.
• Provide technical design leadership and review deliverables from in-house design and capital development teams.
• Assist in developing the 5-year pavement preservation program.
• Participate in Annual, 5-Year, and 20-Year transportation improvement programs.
• Perform related duties as assigned; coordinate activities across multiple agencies.
