Job summary

Jobtailor seeks a senior FinOps professional to own cost governance, forecasting, and chargeback across our cloud estate. You will optimize rightsizing, reserved capacity, and vendor rates as usage grows, linking costs to business units and matters through tagging standards.

You will build models for AI provider costs (OpenAI, Azure AI, Copilot, Harvey, Anthropic) and track cost-per-workflow for AI-enabled work, guiding pricing decisions with Finance and Pricing teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with related experience in FinOps or cloud finance.
  • 7+ years in FinOps, cloud financial management, or technology finance.
  • FOCP certification or willingness to obtain within 180 days.
  • Hands-on with at least one major cloud cost management platform; multi-cloud preferred.
  • Knowledge of AI/LLM pricing structures and fast learning curve for pricing changes.
  • Strong financial modeling and cross-functional collaboration with Finance and Pricing.

Responsibilities

  • Set budget guardrails and consumption thresholds for AI usage.
  • Represent cost considerations in vendor negotiations and renewals.
  • Provide scenario modeling to inform pricing decisions with Pricing and Finance.
  • Lead reporting, recruitment, and change-management to improve workflows.
  • Set priorities and delegate efficiently; travel to other offices as needed.

Job description

  • Own cost governance, forecasting, and chargeback, if implemented, across the firm’s full cloud estate
  • Manage rightsizing, reserved/committed-use capacity, and vendor rate optimization as cloud usage grows
  • Establish tagging and attribution standards linking costs to business unit, practice group, and eventually matter
  • Build and maintain models of token and inference cost across AI providers and platforms including Harvey, Copilot, Microsoft Legal Agent, Azure AI, OpenAI, Anthropic, and future platforms
  • Track cost-per-workflow and cost-per-matter for AI-enabled work by model, task type, and consumption volume
  • Maintain current knowledge of AI model cost structures, context-window pricing, agent/tool-call cost multipliers, and cost/performance tradeoffs
  • Advise on cost implications of model selection and workflow design
  • Monitor evolving vendor pricing models, including token-based, seat-based, and hybrid models, and assess cost exposure as usage scales
  • Partner with Pricing to translate workflow- and matter-level AI cost data into service-pricing, AFA, and consumption-based contract inputs
  • Support review of contract and consumption models as the firm evaluates usage-based pricing structures
  • Provide Pricing and Finance with scenario modeling to inform pricing decisions
  • Establish budget guardrails and consumption thresholds for AI usage across practice groups
  • Represent cost and consumption considerations in vendor negotiations and contract renewals
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required to meet Firm goals and objectives
  • Manage direct-report processes involving performance appraisals, compensation, goal setting, and performance counseling
  • Analyze operational budgets and staffing levels and participate in recruitment
  • Implement change processes to improve workflow efficiencies
  • Set priorities and delegate efficiently
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field; an equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered in lieu of the degree when the experience has been directly related to the functions of the job
  • 7+ years in FinOps, cloud financial management, or technology finance
  • FinOps Certified Practitioner (FOCP) required or willingness to obtain within the first 180 days
  • Hands-on experience with at least one major cloud cost management platform (Azure Cost Management, AWS Cost Explorer, GCP Billing); multi-cloud experience preferred
  • Working knowledge of how AI/LLM providers price and bill consumption, or clear evidence of the technical aptitude to build that fluency quickly
  • Hands on exposure to AI platform costs, such as Copilot, OpenAI, Anthropic, or Azure AI
  • Strong financial modeling skills and comfort building scenario models
  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally with Finance and Pricing teams, translating technical cost data into commercially usable terms
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in a diverse team environment and effectively support the demanding needs of the Firm
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines with shifting priorities
