RTX is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager in Cedar Rapids, IA, to lead a team of about 15 bargaining unit test technicians and engineers focused on production qualification testing for aerospace products.

You will guide performance reviews, staff development, and budgeting while ensuring schedules, cost objectives, and appropriate resources. Occasional travel may be required; a DoD clearance is expected in the long term.

Qualifications

  • Degree in STEM with 10+ years of relevant experience or an advanced degree with 7+ years.
  • Ability to obtain a US DoD security clearance.
  • Prior EMI, Nuclear Engineering, or Lab Management experience.

Position Overview

The Environmental Effects Engineering organization is looking for a candidate to fill a Senior Engineering Manager position in Cedar Rapids Iowa. This position will lead a team of approximately 15 bargaining unit test technicians and nuclear/EMI test engineers performing production qualification testing.

Security Clearance

U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance. The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. Security Clearance Type: DoD Clearance: Secret. Status: Active and existing security clearance required after day 1.

What You Will Do
  • The candidate will be responsible for providing leadership, guidance, hiring, and mentoring to new engineers and technicians.
  • A candidate for this position will prepare/deliver performance reviews, provide coaching/mentoring, assist in career development, plan salaries, reward and recognize individuals, and manage staff performance, as needed.
  • The candidate will also be responsible for identifying the necessary staff, facilities, and equipment for the successful execution of projects.
  • In addition to strong leadership and organizational skills, candidates must have experience in bargaining unit management and aerospace product qualification testing.
  • Candidate will be responsible for adherence to capital and operating budgets, schedules, work plans and performance requirements, along with the planning and budgeting for the acquisition of test equipment.
  • Occasional domestic and international travel is rare but may be expected for this position.
  • Strong leadership and management skills with the ability to lead a cross functional team in the qualification testing of aerospace products.
  • Experience in overall successful project execution and oversight to ensure development teams have properly planned, set up project schedules, identified, hired and trained staff for project execution, and provide oversight that the team executes to the established schedule and cost objectives.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills along with the ability to interface with Engineering Managers, Technical Project Managers, Program Managers and Operations Managers across all business areas within Collins Aerospace.
  • Experience in supporting pursuit activities, including bids and proposals.
  • Experience identifying and tracking work packages that can be worked by subcontract companies.
  • Assigns technical resources to work assignments (workforce allocation).
  • Ensures compliance to development processes and standard work requirements.
  • Actively addresses employee performance and development issues.
  • Experience in performance review and career development planning for individual contributors.
  • Salary planning experience.
  • Responsible for the development and technical coaching/mentoring of staff.
  • Responsible for on-boarding and assimilation of new hires.
  • Experience with working with bargaining unit technicians and related labor relations rules.
Qualifications You Must Have
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience.
  • Ability to obtain a US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance.
  • Prior EMI, Nuclear Engineering, or Lab Management experience.
Qualifications We Prefer
  • Prior experience in Aerospace Qualification Testing.
Compensation

Salary range for this role is 132,400 USD - 251,600 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
