Job description

Senior Manager, Environmental Diligence and Permitting

This role, offered by Piper Maddox, involves leading environmental diligence, permitting strategy, and compliance for utility-scale renewable energy projects. The salary range is $130,000 to $170,000 per year, based on skills and experience. The position is remote (US-based) and reports to the Chief Development Officer.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee environmental siting and permitting for solar, wind, and BESS projects across multiple states.
  • Manage third-party consultants, issue RFPs, negotiate scopes, and track deliverables.
  • Advise internal teams on permitting risks and strategies.
  • Interpret and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations (e.g., ESA, NEPA, CEQA/SEPA).
  • Support land diligence and project M&A from an environmental perspective.
  • Provide permitting support through NTP and construction phases.
Minimum Requirements:
  • 7+ years in environmental permitting, compliance, or siting within the renewables sector.
  • Deep knowledge of permitting frameworks and jurisdictional authorities.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
  • Excellent communication, contract oversight, and strategic skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, planning, engineering, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in greenfield and acquisition due diligence.
  • Experience working in small or growing companies.

This role involves occasional travel to project sites and the company’s HQ in the Midwest.
