Job summary

Relay Therapeutics is seeking a senior formulation scientist to lead the design and development of preclinical and early clinical oral formulations. You will work closely with biology, chemistry, DMPK, and toxicology teams to advance discovery compounds through IND-enabling studies.

The role requires 6+ years in early-stage formulation development for small molecules, with experience in solutions, suspensions, emulsions, tablets and capsules, including poorly soluble compounds.

Qualifications

• Master’s or advanced degree in Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry or related fields.
• 6+ years of relevant experience in early-stage formulation development for small molecules with a focus on oral dosage forms.
• Hands on experience with preclinical and clinical formulations using solutions, suspensions, emulsions, tablets and capsules.
• Experience with poorly soluble compounds using solid dispersions, nano-suspensions, lipid formulations and particle size reduction.
• Strong understanding of analytical techniques (HPLC, UPLC, UV-Vis, IR, PXRD, DSC/TGA, DVS, GC, KF, particle size analysis, SEM).
• PBPK modeling or in silico models is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage formulation development activities to support pre-clinical research and early clinical programs.
• Design and develop discovery formulations to enable pharmacology and toxicology assessments.
• Plan and execute pre-formulation and formulation studies for IND filing.
• Conduct stability studies to support advancement of discovery compounds.
• Coordinate with DMPK, toxicology and analytical teams to ensure timely manufacture and supply of formulations.
• Collaborate with drug discovery groups to develop formulation protocols for DRF and GLP studies.
• Plan manufacturing and testing at CROs/CDMOs for pre-clinical and early-stage clinical formulations.
• Present data and provide guidance on formulation challenges in technical meetings.
