Job description

Archer is an aerospace and defense company headquartered in San Jose, California, building the aircraft and technology that will define the next era of flight. The company works across air taxis, UAS, AI and powertrain development — building real-world systems that combine software intelligence with physical hardware. That includes Midnight, Archer's all-electric air taxi; Halo, an autonomous vertical takeoff and landing aircraft built for both commercial and defense use; and ZEE, Archer's AI foundation model built specifically for aviation. We’re seeking exceptional engineers, operators and builders to join us on our mission to build the future of aerospace and defense.

Our sights are set high and our problems are hard, and we believe that diversity in the workplace is what makes us smarter, drives better insights, and will ultimately lift us all to success. We are dedicated to cultivating an equitable and inclusive environment that embraces our differences, and supports and celebrates all of our team members.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead dimensional engineering strategy for complex aerospace and eVTOL structures, ensuring geometric integrity, tolerance robustness, and compliance with ASME Y14.5 and aerospace standards across the product lifecycle.
  • Define and approve GD&T schemes, datum structures, and tolerance allocation methodologies for composite, machined, bonded, and assembled components to support manufacturability, inspectability, and functional performance.
  • Establish dimensional control plans, key characteristics, and variation reduction strategies for flight-critical structures, integrating statistical tolerance analysis and risk-based prioritization.
  • Develop and review measurement strategies, inspection plans, and metrology requirements, including CMM, laser scanning, photogrammetry, and tooling validation methods.
  • Oversee dimensional validation activities during prototype, pre-production, and production phases, ensuring readiness for certification, conformity, and regulatory audits.
  • Provide technical leadership in interpreting aerospace specifications, early architecture documents, and evolving design definitions to guide downstream dimensional decisions.
  • Manage and mentor dimensional engineering teams, setting technical standards, reviewing analyses, and ensuring consistency of best practices across programs.
  • Interface with DERs, certification authorities, and internal stakeholders to support compliance documentation, dimensional substantiation, and audit readiness.

Minimum Education Requirement: Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Minimum Experience Requirement: Dimensional Engineer or related occupational title in which 5 years of dimensional engineering experience with diverse manufacturing process was gained.

Special Requirement: Must have in-depth knowledge of GD&T and ASME Y14.5-1994/2009/2018; diverse measurement systems and when they are best implemented; and basic statistical concepts and process control. Must have proficiency in 1D and 3D dimensional variation analysis and 3DCS software.

Travel Requirement: Up to 15% domestic and international travel.
