Senior Manager – Data Product Engineering

Lead a cross‑functional engineering team responsible for designing, building, and operating enterprise data products that enable analytics, AI, and digital business capabilities. Work with curious, creative, and diverse teams worldwide to deliver trusted, scalable, and reusable data products that create measurable business value.

Overview

In this role you will:

• Lead, coach, and develop a high‑performing team of Data Engineers and Technical Leads.
• Own the end‑to‑end delivery lifecycle for enterprise data products, from product planning and technical design through development, testing, deployment, production support, and continuous enhancement.
• Drive engineering best practices including CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, automated testing, data quality validation, monitoring, data contracts, and documentation.
• Partner with business stakeholders, Product Managers, Enterprise Architecture, and Data Governance to translate business capabilities into technical solutions that deliver measurable outcomes.
• Guide cloud‑native data solutions using Snowflake, Apache Iceberg, AWS, dbt, Python, SQL, APIs, streaming technologies, and data orchestration platforms.
• Ensure products support AI applications, machine learning, intelligent agents, semantic models, self‑service analytics, and real‑time operational decision making.

Leadership & Team Development

• Recruit, develop, and provide clear career paths and performance expectations.
• Foster collaboration across engineering, architecture, product management, and business teams.
• Build an engineering culture focused on quality, ownership, automation, and continuous improvement.

Data Product Delivery

• Plan and design product features.
• Develop, test, deploy, and maintain products.
• Ensure reliability, security, governance, observability, and reusability across the enterprise.

Engineering Excellence

• Promote modern software engineering practices within data engineering.
• Implement CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, automated testing, and data quality validation.
• Maintain monitoring, alerting, version control, data contracts, and documentation.

Business Partnership

• Collaborate with Product Managers, Domain leaders, Enterprise Architects, Platform Engineering, Data Governance, and Security.
• Translate business capabilities into technical solutions that deliver measurable outcomes.

Operational Excellence

• Own operational health of data products, including availability, performance, data freshness, and data quality.
• Manage incidents, cost optimization, and technical debt.
• Establish SLOs and continuously improve platform reliability.

AI Enablement

• Design data products to support AI applications, machine learning, intelligent agents, semantic models, self‑service analytics, and real‑time decision making.

What This Role Does Not Do

• Own platform infrastructure engineering or AWS infrastructure delivery.
• Perform individual‑contributor data pipeline development.
• Define business metrics, KPIs, or semantic models.
• Create dashboards, reports, or BI content.
• Operate as a project manager without engineering accountability.

Success Metrics

• On‑time delivery of the roadmap with strong business adoption.
• High deployment frequency and low lead time for change.
• Consistent meeting of platform availability and data quality SLAs.
• Growth in reusable enterprise data products and AI‑ready datasets.
• Reduction in duplicate data pipelines.
• Team engagement, retention, and talent development.
• Business KPI improvements enabled by delivered products.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related technology field.
• 10+ years of experience in Data Engineering, Software Engineering, or Data Platforms in a private, public, government, or military environment.
• 5+ years of leadership experience managing engineering teams in a similar environment.

Preferred Experience

• Enterprise‑scale cloud data solutions.
• Modern data architectures.
• Agile delivery models.
• Strong communication and executive presentation skills.
• Experience with AWS, Snowflake, Apache Iceberg, Databricks, dbt, Python, Spark, SQL, Kafka or streaming technologies.
• Data Mesh or domain‑oriented architectures.
• Product operating models.
• AI and machine learning data platforms.
• Large, global, regulated enterprise environments.
• Manufacturing, supply chain, or enterprise analytics experience.

Location & Travel

• Base location: Maplewood, MN.
• Travel may include up to 10% domestic or international.
• Relocation may be authorized.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Compensation & Benefits

Expected range: $188,251 – $230,084 (base pay plus variable incentive, if eligible). This range is a good‑faith estimate and may vary based on experience, location, and other factors.
