Job description

At Relativity Space, we have two audacious goals: to build the next great commercial launch company with Terran R and to become America's leading force in additive manufacturing innovation. Both contribute to our long-term vision of creating humanity's industrial base on Mars, paving the way for interplanetary life to expand the possibilities of the human experience. This journey begins right here on Earth – where we design, build, and fly rockets to deliver customer payloads to orbit. Terran R, our medium-to-heavy lift reusable rocket, fulfills the growing demand for launch capacity, thanks to our iterative approach that accelerates design, testing, and development while minimizing costs. Our groundbreaking research and development in 3D printing pushes the boundaries of large-scale additive manufacturing.

Your journey with us is more than just a job – it's an opportunity to shape the future of aerospace technology, additive manufacturing, and the human experience alongside a community of passionate, creative individuals. Join us on this extraordinary journey, as we work together to transform our vision into reality.

About the Team:

The Factory Test team is responsible for hardware testing in our Long Beach facilities. We use our breadth of experience and collaborative engineering approach to support everything from very large structural tests to precise valve actuation. We design, build, and operate all test assets in Long Beach from initial concept to test execution. If you enjoy working on a multi-disciplinary team with a broad mandate and want to put hands-on hardware, then this is the team for you.

About the Role:

  • Set the technical direction, evaluate risk, and review design work of the engineering team as it relates to the data collection and control of our structural, mechanism, and component test stands.
  • Recruit, develop, mentor, retain, and manage top-tier data and control systems engineers at all levels of seniority.
  • Collaborate on multi-disciplinary projects and help build relationships with partner teams at all organizational levels including Structures Test, Fluids Test, Operations, Ground Software, Data Platform, Vehicle Engineering, and others.
  • Create, track, and report project schedules and budgets while reducing cost and lead time.
  • Spend approximately 50% of your time in an operational environment focused on real-time problem solving.

About You:

  • BS in Electrical Engineering or related field or equivalent demonstrated experience and knowledge.
  • Significant technical experience with data collection and control systems, with the ability to discuss past projects and personal contributions.
  • 3+ years of previous experience leading an engineering team, including full talent lifecycle management.
  • Proven history of activating complex projects in operational environments and problem-solving in the field.
  • Experience scaling a team or transitioning from development to production.

Nice to haves but not required:

  • Familiarity with hydraulic and/or electric motion control schemes and applications.
  • Success in real-time operational environments such as launch operations, test operations, factory turn-around, auto racing pit crew, or stage management. Past aerospace test experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge of networking, software development, and deployment schemes.
  • Experience leading leaders.

At Relativity Space, we are committed to transparency and fairness in our compensation practices. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors.

Compensation is only one part of our total rewards package. We offer competitive salary and equity, generous PTO and sick leave policies, parental leave, an annual learning and development stipend, and more! For details on our benefits & perks, please visit our website.

Hiring Range: $201,000—$220,000 USD
