Job summary

Epsilon is seeking a Senior Manager, Data Center Engineer to oversee daily data center operations at our Chicago site. You will lead facilities teams, manage power, cooling, cabling, asset control, and collaborate with Infrastructure Engineering to deploy new environments.

You will mentor staff, set standards, and ensure security/compliance across SOC, PCI, HIPAA, and ISO frameworks. This on-site role requires 10+ years in data center leadership and strong people leadership.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience managing multiple data centers.
  • 5+ years of people management and technical leadership.
  • Strong communication and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of security frameworks (ISO 27001, NIST, PCI DSS).
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in CS/IT or related field.

Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day Data Center Operations across hosting facilities, infrastructure deployment, cabling, asset management, and facility operations.
  • Establish and maintain operational standards, procedures, and governance across all data center locations.
  • Serve as escalation point for critical data center infrastructure and facility issues.
  • Partner with Infrastructure Engineering and Operations to modernize operational practices.
  • Recruit, develop, and mentor data center operations teams.
  • Maintain infrastructure health, capacity forecasts, risks and initiatives to leadership.
  • Ensure IT infrastructure aligns with security and regulatory requirements (SOC, PCI, HIPAA, ISO).
  • Participate in team/manager on-call rotations.

We are looking for a Senior Manager, Data Center Engineer to help with running the day-to-day operations of our data centre teams. The person in this position will be responsible for running the day-to-day operations of the data center. Will assist team members with new builds in remote sites. Work with different departments within the company to deploy new environments. This person will be onsite in the data center, will be responsible for receiving new equipment, planning rack layouts and infrastructure cabling. Maintaining a clean and organized data center is a must.

How You’ll Make an Impact
Operational Leadership
  • Lead the day to day Data Center Operations responsible for managing hosting facilities, physical infrastructure deployment, cabling, asset management, and facility operations.
  • Establish and maintain operational standards, procedures, and governance practices to ensure consistent execution across all data center locations.
  • Serve as the first escalation point for critical data center infrastructure and facility-related issues.
  • Partner with Infrastructure Engineering and Operations teams to modernize operational practices.
  • Recruit, develop, mentor, and retain a high-performing Data Center Operations teams.
  • Establish performance goals, provide regular coaching, and develop future leaders.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, ownership, collaboration, and continuous learning.
  • Maintain and present infrastructure health, capacity forecasts, risks, and strategic initiatives to senior leadership.
  • Ensure IT infrastructure aligns with security, regulatory, and compliance requirements (e.g., SOC, PCI, HIPAA, ISO).
  • Participate in team/manager on-call rotations.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.
Data Center Facility Management
  • Manage day-to-day relationships with colocation providers, hardware vendors, maintenance providers, and facility partners.
  • Oversee data center space, power, cooling, and environmental capacity planning.
  • Ensure optimal utilization of facility resources while maintaining fault-domains and resiliency requirements.
  • Maintain secure access controls and physical security standards across all data center locations.
  • Coordinate data center facility preventative maintenance, infrastructure deployment & lifecycle management projects.
  • Manage monthly invoices reconciliation process and financial forecasting processing.
Qualifications
  • 10+ years operationally managing multiple geographically diverse data centers.
  • 5+ years managing people and technical teams.
  • Ability to build strong relationships and deliver customer-centric outcomes.
  • Effective communication, negotiation, and influencing skills at all organizational levels.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, focusing on operational excellence and automation.
  • Ability to manage complexity and tackle problems efficiently.
  • Innovative mentality, continuously exploring new methodologies and technologies.
  • Extensive knowledge concerning data center power and network cabling practices
  • Good knowledge of security frameworks and regulations (e.g., ISO 27001, NIST, PCI DSS).
  • Experience leading distributed teams providing 24/7 operational support.
  • Solid understanding of ITIL or other service management frameworks.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in computer science, information technology, or related field; advanced degree preferred.

Compensation Range: USD $132,900.00 - USD $246,700.00/Annually. This is the pay range the Company believes it will pay for this position at the time of this posting. Consistent with applicable law, compensation will be determined based on the skills, qualifications, and experience of the applicant along with the requirements of the position, and the Company reserves the right to modify this pay range at any time. Temporary roles may be eligible to participate in our freelancer/temporary employee medical plan through a third-party benefits administration system once certain criteria have been met. Temporary roles may also qualify for participation in our 401(k) plan after eligibility criteria have been met. For regular roles, the Company will offer medical coverage, dental, vision, disability, 401k, and paid time off.
