Job description

The Customer and Product Reference Data Senior Manager is responsible for leading the organization's customer and product master data function, ensuring the accuracy, consistency, governance, and integrity of enterprise reference data across business systems. This role oversees the creation, maintenance, and governance of customer, product, pricing, and related reference data that supports critical business processes including order management, billing, procurement, inventory, finance, and reporting.

The Manager develops and implements data governance strategies, establishes master data standards, leads a team of analysts, and partners with cross-functional stakeholders to improve data quality, operational efficiency, and business decision-making.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the Customer and Product Reference Data team responsible for maintaining enterprise master data.
  • Establish policies, procedures, and governance standards for customer and product reference data.
  • Ensure timely and accurate creation, maintenance, modification, and retirement of customer and product master records.
  • Oversee product hierarchies, customer hierarchies, pricing structures, units of measure, product classifications, and reference tables.
  • Maintain consistent data standards across ERP, CRM, MDM, and other enterprise systems.
Data Governance
  • Develop and maintain enterprise master data governance policies and controls.
  • Serve as the business owner for customer and product master data processes.
  • Partner with Data Governance, Information Technology, Finance, Sales, Supply Chain, and Product Management to establish enterprise data standards.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, audit requirements, and regulatory standards.
  • Lead governance committees and data stewardship initiatives.
Data Quality Management
  • Monitor data quality through defined KPIs and scorecards.
  • Implement data validation rules and quality monitoring processes.
  • Identify root causes of recurring data issues and implement sustainable corrective actions.
  • Lead enterprise data cleansing and data standardization initiatives.
  • Ensure duplicate prevention and accurate master record maintenance.
Operational Management
  • Manage workflow priorities and service level agreements (SLAs) for customer and product setup requests.
  • Oversee customer onboarding and product introduction processes.
  • Ensure timely processing of customer account requests, product additions, pricing updates, and organizational changes.
  • Support mergers, acquisitions, product launches, and system integrations affecting master data.
Systems and Process Improvement
  • Lead implementation and optimization of ERP, CRM, Master Data Management (MDM), and Product Information Management (PIM) systems.
  • Partner with IT on system enhancements, automation initiatives, and workflow improvements.
  • Develop standardized operating procedures (SOPs) and process documentation.
  • Evaluate new technologies that improve master data management and governance.
Reporting and Analytics
  • Develop dashboards and reports measuring master data quality, operational performance, and service levels.
  • Monitor KPIs including:
  • Processing turnaround time
  • Duplicate record rate
  • SLA compliance
  • Customer onboarding cycle time
  • Present trends, risks, and improvement opportunities to senior leadership.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with Sales, Customer Service, Finance, Procurement, Supply Chain, Marketing, Product Management, Operations, and Information Technology.
  • Support downstream business processes including billing, order management, inventory management, purchasing, forecasting, and financial reporting.
  • Resolve complex cross-functional data issues impacting business operations.
Leadership and Staff Development
  • Recruit, train, coach, and develop Customer and Product Reference Data Analysts.
  • Establish performance goals and conduct performance evaluations.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and customer service.
  • Develop succession plans and cross-training initiatives.
  • 7-10 years of experience in master data management, customer data, product data, business operations, or data governance.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Experience supporting enterprise ERP or MDM platforms.
  • Experience leading cross-functional process improvement initiatives
  • Extensive knowledge of customer and product master data management principles.
  • Strong understanding of data governance frameworks and data stewardship practices.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Experience with Power BI, Tableau, SQL, or other reporting and analytics tools preferred.
  • Knowledge of data quality management methodologies.
  • Strong project management and change management skills.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication abilities.
  • Ability to influence stakeholders across multiple business functions.
