Job description

As the leading end-to-end investment platform for single-family rental homes (SFR), our mission is to reinvent the rental housing ecosystem for the benefit of all. We successfully merge our passion for helping investors build wealth through real estate with cutting edge technology that transforms the way they do it.

How it’s going (and growing)

With a talented team of 750+ Roofsters, our collaborative, can-do culture is what fuels our growth. In 2022, we closed on our Series E, raising $240 million, and have offices in the Bay Area and New York City. Our growth includes recent acquisitions of Stessa (financial and asset management software), RentPrep (tenant screening and placement service for landlords), and Mynd (property management platform for both Retail and Institutional investors). In 2025, Roofstock took an ownership stake in Casago (short-term rental management services), expanding our platform to support both long-term and short-term rental investment services.

About the Role

The Senior Manager, Construction is responsible for leading Roofstock's Construction organization, overseeing the execution of renovation, turn, and capital improvement programs across multiple markets. This leader is accountable for operational performance, team development, vendor strategy, and continuous process improvement while ensuring projects are delivered safely, on budget, on schedule, and in accordance with Roofstock quality standards.

Leading a team of Construction Specialists and Senior Construction Specialists, the Senior Manager establishes the operating rhythm through scalable processes, data-driven decision making, and a culture of accountability and continuous improvement. Success in this role is measured not only by project outcomes, but by the organization's ability to consistently deliver exceptional customer experiences while improving cost, speed, and quality at scale.

This leader partners closely with Product, Property Management, Field Operations, Vendor Management, Asset Management, and People Operations to modernize construction operations through automation and AI-enabled workflows. The Senior Manager serves as the voice of Construction, helping define future operating models, shape product roadmaps, and translate technology investments into measurable operational improvements.

The ideal candidate combines deep residential construction expertise with exceptional operational leadership, analytical thinking, and people management experience. They are equally comfortable coaching leaders, negotiating with strategic vendors, reviewing portfolio analytics, and representing Construction in executive and customer-facing discussions.

Success in this Role

Within your first year, you will:

  • Build a high-performing Construction organization that consistently delivers predictable project outcomes across all supported markets.
  • Improve cycle time, quality, and cost performance through standardized processes and data-driven decision making.
  • Develop future leaders while creating scalable processes that support continued business growth.
  • Partner across the organization to implement technology and AI-enabled workflows that improve efficiency and customer experience.
  • Serve as the trusted operational leader for Construction, balancing executional excellence with long-term organizational strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of Construction Specialists and Senior Construction Specialists, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Own the operational performance of the Construction organization, ensuring projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and in accordance with Roofstock quality standards.
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) including turn cycle time, budget adherence, quality, customer satisfaction, contractor performance, and team productivity.
  • Drive operational excellence by developing standardized processes, playbooks, and quality controls that improve consistency and scalability across all markets.
  • Partner with Vendor Management to build and maintain a high-performing contractor network, including vendor onboarding, performance management, capacity planning, and strategic sourcing initiatives.
  • Travel regularly to supported markets to inspect properties, validate quality standards, strengthen vendor relationships, and identify opportunities to improve operational performance.
  • Lead workforce planning efforts by aligning staffing, capacity, and market coverage with projected business demand while supporting organizational growth.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Property Management, Field Operations, Asset Management, Product, Finance, and People Operations to improve the end-to-end renovation experience for residents, owners, and internal stakeholders.
  • Champion AI, automation, and technology-enabled workflows by partnering with Product and Engineering to identify system enhancements, shape roadmap priorities, and improve operational scalability.
  • Analyze operational and financial performance to identify opportunities to improve efficiency, cost, quality, and customer outcomes.
  • Manage escalated construction issues, balancing customer experience, financial stewardship, and operational priorities while driving timely resolution.
  • Develop and manage departmental budgets, forecasting labor, contractor, and operational expenses while identifying opportunities to improve financial performance.
  • Build organizational capability through hiring, onboarding, coaching, succession planning, and leadership development, creating a strong pipeline of future leaders.
  • Represent the Construction organization in executive business reviews, strategic planning initiatives, and cross-functional programs that support company objectives.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in residential construction, renovations, property maintenance, or a related field, with progressively increasing leadership responsibility.
  • 5+ years leading managers, supervisors, or high-performing operational teams in a multi-market environment.
  • Demonstrated success leading multi-market operations with accountability for quality, budget, service levels, and execution.
  • Strong understanding of residential construction practices, estimating, scopes of work, contractor management, and project lifecycle management.
  • Experience developing operational processes, driving change management, and leading continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience using operational metrics and data to make business decisions.
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence cross-functional partners and executive leadership.
