Job summary

Centene Corporation seeks a senior leader to manage a team of Senior Application Development Engineers responsible for designing, developing, and implementing complex enterprise software solutions. You will collaborate with data modelers, architects, business analysts, and SMEs to deliver design, development, testing, implementation, and support across the enterprise.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree and 6+ years of related experience, including prior management.

Responsibilities

• Oversee a team of Senior Application Development Engineers on large-scale complex projects/programs
• Lead scope, schedule, and budget, ensuring progress is monitored and communicated
• Make decisions based on reported application progress and outcomes
• Define training and career development plans for Application Developers
• Oversee third-party development teams and vendors to meet standards and performance
• Define risk identification and mitigation processes and participate in controls
• Communicate with Application and Infrastructure Management during service transitions
• Partner with Security and SRE teams to follow security and change management policies
• Lead design/development of proofs of concept and prototype environments
• Hire and train staff and provide leadership, technical guidance and coaching to developers
• Set operational objectives and delegate tasks to ensure stable operation of development activities
• Develop staff capabilities to strengthen understanding of application development and business issues
• Ensure teams meet functional, quality, and timeline objectives
• Comply with all policies and standards

Job description

Manages the team members accountable for designing, developing, and implementing complex enterprise software solutions. Collaborates closely with technical and non-technical roles such as data modelers, architects, business analysts, data stewards, and subject matter experts (SMEs) to provide design, technical analysis, development/configuration, testing, implementation, and support expertise representing the interest of the business across the enterprise. This is a remote position within the United States requiring quarterly business travel. Sponsorship and future sponsorship are not available for this opportunity, including employment-based visa types H-1B, L-1, O-1, H-1B1, F-1, J-1, OPT, or CPT.

• Oversees a team consisting of Senior Application Development Engineers responsible with large-scale complex Application Development projects / programs
• Accountable for leading efforts around project scope, schedule, and budget ensuring commitments and progress are monitored closely and communicated clearly.
• Makes decisions based on reported application progress and outcomes
• Establishes training and career development planning to Application Developers
• Oversees the work of 3rd party Development teams, holds 3rd party vendors accountable to our standards, policies, and performance expectations.
• Defines processes to identify and evaluate risks and participates in mitigation and control activities
• Expertly communicates with Application and Infrastructure Management operational groups during service transition
• Partners with Security and SRE teams, makes sure all security and change management policies are followed.
• Leads the design and development of proof of concept and prototype application environments
• Manages the hiring and training of new and existing staff, conduct performance / salary reviews, and provide leadership, technical guidance and coaching to Developers executing all aspects of applications development
• Establishes operational objectives and delegates tasks to team Developers to help ensure the stable operation of application development activities
• Provides expert knowledge to develop staff capabilities to strengthen understanding of application development industry, business issues and best practices; evaluate implications to IT
• Holds teams accountable to meet functional, quality, and time line objectives.
• Complies with all policies and standards.

Requires a Bachelor's degree and 6+ years of related experience, including prior management experience

• Experience with Application Development; Applications Architecture, DevOps industry best practices
• Knowledge of Agile Software Development
• Hands-on, technical background surrounding databases and data governance, ideally including knowledge of graph model databases
• Healthcare payer, provider operations, or provider data management experience preferred
