Job summary

Southern California Edison (SCE) seeks a Senior Manager, AMI Technology Strategy & Vendor Management to lead the AMI 2.0 technology strategy, governance of end-to-end requirements, and vendor roadmap management across meters, networks, MDMS, analytics, and IT/OT systems.

In this role, you will oversee technical requirements, architecture alignment, and technology roadmaps across meters, communications networks, head‑end systems, MDMS, DI Hub, analytics, and supporting IT/OT systems. Serving as the primary interface with AMI technology vendors, you will influence product direction, drive interoperability and cybersecurity alignment, ensure certification readiness and cross‑vendor integration, and provide technical leadership to deliver secure, scalable, and operationally ready solutions that support SCE’s long-term AMI 2.0 vision and business objectives. In partnership with engineering, operations, cybersecurity, procurement, IT, and AMI vendors, you will provide executive-level technical leadership, decision guidance, and risk management to enable successful AMI 2.0 technology delivery and sustainment. Primary Responsibilities

• Define and govern the AMI 2.0 technology strategy and architecture, establishing the technical requirements baseline across meters, communications networks, head‑end systems, MDMS, analytics, and supporting IT/OT platforms.
• Lead end‑to‑end technical requirements governance, including requirements traceability, standards alignment, change control, and cross‑ecosystem design decision management.
• Oversee vendor technology and roadmap governance, ensuring product capabilities, releases, certifications, and lifecycle plans align with AMI program objectives, deployment timelines, and long‑term operational needs.
• Serve as the program lead for interoperability and standards engagement, driving cross‑vendor integration and representing SCE in industry organizations such as DLMS, GEISA, and related technical forums.
• Identify and mitigate technology‑related risks, including vendor dependencies, roadmap shifts, requirements changes, standards evolution, cybersecurity considerations, and system integration challenges.
• Partner with engineering, operations, cybersecurity, procurement, IT, and vendors to resolve technical issues, set priorities, and ensure successful AMI 2.0 deployment and sustainment.
• Develop and deliver executive‑level technology strategies and decision materials, including recommendations, risk assessments, and investment‑supporting analyses.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a technical strategy and governance team, strengthening capabilities in requirements management, vendor oversight, interoperability, and standards participation.

Responsibilities

• Leads a variety of engineering and business initiatives to develop grid strategies, determine how the grid is planned, designed, operated and maintained to operationalize company's strategy.
• Manages and prioritizes the engineering roadmap in collaboration with other departments; develops and implements strategies for improving execution efficiency.
• Leads, manages and supports the project engineering group and remains responsible and accountable for their team's delivery of small to large scale projects.
• Manages execution performance of their teams, identifying barriers, and prioritizing work for their teams to ensure projects are delivered on‑time, within scope and within budgets.
• Reviews and makes decisions on project plans, resource allocation, risk assessment, mitigation strategies, budgets, and resources to ensure timely and successful delivery of capital and strategic projects Oversee the development and implementation of a comprehensive project management framework to ensure efficient project execution, reporting, and delivery of goals within budget.
• Drives the adoption of digitalization and automation technologies to improve engineering processes, reduce manual effort, and enhance project outcomes.
• Leads the development and maintains a robust risk management strategy to identify, assess, and mitigate risks associated with engineering projects.
• Develops goals and assigns projects/roles to employees that translate corporate strategic vision into actionable initiatives to delegate.
• Leads the development and implementation of cross organizational strategy, technology and safety program to ensure company advancement toward future vision and the well‑being of employees and contractors involved in engineering projects.
• A material job duty of all positions within the Company is ensuring the protection of all its physical, financial and cybersecurity assets, and properly accessing and managing private customer data, proprietary information, confidential medical records, and other types of highly sensitive information and data with the highest standards of conduct and integrity.

Minimum Qualifications

• Five or more years of experience supervising a team of direct reports and/or project management.
• Experience performing engineering work in operations, production, construction or maintenance environments.

Preferred Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in AMI, smart metering, utility technology, grid modernization, or IT/OT environments, including 5+ years leading AMI or related technology, architecture, vendor, or systems integration programs
• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Demonstrated ability to manage both hardware and software lifecycles, including planning, integration, deployment readiness, and operational sustainment.
• Proven success overseeing complex vendor ecosystems, shaping product direction, and aligning vendors on technical priorities, delivery milestones, and roadmap commitments.
• Broad experience across technology platforms, systems integration, and data and analytics ecosystems, including architecture design, secure data flows, system dependencies, and cybersecurity principles within utility or industrial environments.
• Working knowledge of industry standards, interoperability frameworks, and certification processes, with experience participating in standards bodies or industry forums.
• Established leadership in cross‑functional execution, including roadmap governance, risk mitigation, stakeholder alignment, and executive‑level communication.

Additional Information

• This position’s work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to work and reside in the state of California. Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage.
