Job description

Madrigal is a biopharmaceutical company focused on delivering novel therapeutics for metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), a serious liver disease that can progress to cirrhosis, liver failure, need for liver transplantation and premature mortality. Every member of our Madrigal team is connected by our shared purpose: leading the fight against MASH.

Madrigal’s medication, Rezdiffra (resmetirom), is a once-daily, oral, liver-directed THR-β agonist designed to target key underlying causes of MASH. Rezdiffra is the first and only medication approved by both the FDA and European Commission for the treatment of MASH with moderate to advanced fibrosis (F2 to F3). An ongoing Phase 3 outcomes trial is evaluating Rezdiffra for the treatment of compensated MASH cirrhosis (F4c).

Our success is driven by our people. We are building a dynamic, inclusive, and high-performing culture that values scientific excellence, operational rigor, and collaboration. To support our continued growth, we are strengthening our workforce strategy to ensure we have the right talent, at the right time, in the right way.

We are seeking a Senior Manager, Accounting to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will have a strong fundamental understanding of U.S. GAAP and experience managing general ledger accounting and financial close activities. The Senior Manager will perform primary-level reviews of journal entries and account reconciliations, support the Company’s SOX compliance program, and partner with internal and external stakeholders on accounting and audit matters.

This leadership role will also partner with our Financial Systems and Operations team to support our broader finance data strategy and will work collaboratively with Chief Accounting Officer’s leadership team to enable process optimization and global financial process ownership for the record to report cycle.

The successful candidate will possess strong leadership capabilities, exceptional organizational skills, and excellent written and verbal communication skills. This individual will also be responsible for developing and mentoring members of the accounting team while supporting special projects, and other strategic initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain a strong understanding of assigned balance sheet and income statement accounts and proactively identify unusual activity, reconciling items, trends, and accounting matters requiring further analysis.
  • Oversee and support the execution and documentation of SOX controls and assist in enhancing internal controls and procedures to ensure compliance with SOX requirements and Company policies.
  • Support internal and external audit activities, including preparation and review of requested schedules, documentation, and supporting materials.
  • Partner cross-functionally with FP&A, Treasury, Legal, Tax, HR, and other departments to ensure transactions are appropriately accounted for and financial information is complete and accurate.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve accounting processes, strengthen controls, increase efficiency, and enhance the scalability of the financial close process.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop accounting team members, including establishing performance expectations, providing ongoing feedback and coaching, and supporting professional development and career growth.
  • Foster a collaborative, accountable, and high-performing team environment.
  • Lead and participate in special projects, including financial close acceleration, automation of accounting initiatives, global process improvements, system implementations and enhancements, and other strategic finance projects.
