Job summary

Berkshire Hathaway GUARD Insurance Companies is seeking a Senior Liability Adjuster to handle large, litigated CGL/BOP claims with a focus on California exposures.

The role involves end-to-end claim management, complex coverage analysis, and licensing support. Travel for hearings and conferences is expected where needed. This position offers hybrid/office options across multiple locations.

Qualifications

• At least 10 years of experience handling litigated CGL and BOP liability claims.
• Experience handling catastrophic California claims, including litigation and complex exposures.
• Bachelor’s degree required; JD or attorney license preferred.
• Ability to interpret coverage and analyze policies to identify risk transfer opportunities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational and technical skills.
• Effective time management with the ability to prioritize competing demands.
• Willingness to travel for hearings, mediations, trials, and conferences.
• Licensing: active adjuster license or willingness to obtain and maintain state licenses; company supports licensing.

Responsibilities

• Handle large, catastrophic claims with a strong emphasis on California losses, including a high volume of litigated matters.
• Analyze insurance policies, contracts, indemnification agreements, and additional insured provisions to identify coverage defenses, tender opportunities, and risk transfer strategies
• Investigate claims, evaluate liability, and determine coverage applicability
• Manage claims through all phases of litigation, including discovery, depositions, mediation, settlement conferences, arbitration, and trial preparation
• Review evidence, expert reports, and medical documentation
• Establish and maintain indemnity and expense reserves; process payments within authority
• Take statements and manage claim documentation throughout the claim lifecycle
