Job summary

ACNC is seeking a Senior Maintenance Technician - Welder to perform skilled welding, fabrication, and maintenance across zoo facilities. The role supports gates, fences, and various structures with regular preventive maintenance and after-hours service.

Under supervision, you will interpret drawings, operate weld equipment, and collaborate with the Facilities team to ensure safety and reliability of exhibits and infrastructure.

Qualifications

  • 5 years of experience in zoo, campus, or industrial maintenance or construction with emphasis in welding at Journeyman level.
  • Certification or trade school diploma preferred in welding.
  • Familiarity with metal fabrication safety and practices.
  • Familiarity with OSHA regulations for torch/plasma cutting and safety.

Responsibilities

  • Perform welding, brazing, soldering, cutting, and fabricating new designs under supervision.
  • Fabricate and maintain gates, fences, caging, and other structures.
  • Follow preventative maintenance schedules and assist with installation and repair of equipment.
  • Interpret schematic drawings and technical instructions; document work orders.

Job Title: Senior Maintenance Technician - Welder

General Statement

Under direct supervision of the Facilities Maintenance Manager, the Welder performs skilled work involving welding, brazing, soldering, cutting, sawing, and fabricating new designs.

Essential Duties
  • 1. Provides quality guest service to both internal and external guests by maintaining a WILD (friendly, helpful, positive and professional) working attitude and appearance.
  • 2. Fabricates, repairs and maintains steel/iron gates, fences, caging, and various other structures throughout the Zoo.
  • 3. Provides routine scheduled maintenance and follows preventative maintenance schedules, including weekly maintenance on the carousel.
  • 4. Assists with installation and repair of other types of equipment and fixtures.
  • 5. Interprets schematic drawings, charts and technical instructions.
  • 6. Monitors condition of equipment and systems.
  • 7. Assists with fabrication of new exhibits and/or prototypes.
  • 8. Provides scheduled and emergency after-hour maintenance or repair.
  • 9. Performs other trades as needed (electrical, plumbing, carpentry, etc.).
  • 10. Documents work performed on work orders.
  • 11. Maintains work area cleanliness.
  • 12. Ensures the safety of all guests (external and internal) at all times, including in case of Zoo-related emergency
  • 13. Works collaboratively with colleagues and supervisors to support ACNC's Core Values and mission statement.
  • 14. Performs any other duties and projects as fits the needs of the ACNC's business strategy.

Requirements
  • 1. Certification, trade school diploma, or license preferred.
  • 2. 5 years of experience in zoo, campus, or industrial maintenance or construction with emphasis in welding at a Journeyman level.
  • 3. Familiarity with metal fabrication safety and practices.
  • 4. Familiarity with OSHA regulations regarding torch/plasma cutting and safety in work practices.
  • 5. Knowledge of the application and use of equipment, such as: arc welders, soldering irons, acetylene/map torches and cutters, plasma cutters, and MIG/TIG welding and equipment.
  • 6. Skill in interpreting schematic drawings, charts and technical instructions.
  • 7. Ability to operate a forklift, scissor lift, and boom lift.
  • 8. Ability to work weekends, late evenings, and holidays.
  • 9. Ability to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions.
  • 10. Possession of valid driver license.
  • 11. Ability to pass pre-employment background and DMV check, drug test, and annual TB test.
