Description

The full salary range for this position is as follows: $40.63 to $50.89. Expected hiring range is $40.63 to $44.81.

To organize, assign, train, and review the work of a group of skilled and semi-skilled staff involved in maintenance and repair work in various specialties, including fleet, parks, buildings, parkways, assessment districts, streets, and related facilities.

Distinguishing Characteristics

Positions at this level perform the most difficult duties; possess specialized technical or functional expertise. Incumbents are assigned significant responsibilities above the advanced journey level, with specialized knowledge, abilities, skills, and experience, exercising independent judgment and initiative.

Examples Of Essential Duties

• Provide technical and/or functional supervision over assigned staff; plan, prioritize, lead, review, and participate in work; contribute to performance evaluations.
• Develop schedules and methods to ensure timely and efficient completion of assignments.
• Coordinate staff training and work with employees to correct deficiencies.
• Review work, inspect in-progress tasks, and train staff in safe operation of tools and equipment.
• Contribute to budget planning, verify funds, and review expenditures to prevent overruns.
• Research parts and materials, seek bids, recommend contractors, and coordinate with them on projects.
• Prepare purchase requisitions, manage acquisitions, track inventory, and ensure timely payments.
• Maintain accurate work records including labor, material, and equipment costs.
• Operate equipment requiring high skill and train subordinates as needed.
• Order supplies and equipment for projects.
• Use a computer for research, data entry, and record-keeping.
• Perform related duties as required.

When Assigned To Street/Traffic Striping

• Oversee maintenance of streets, trees, and related areas.
• Lay out traffic striping and perform street/traffic painting activities.
• Review traffic safety plans.

Experience & Training / License And/Or Certificate

Any combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. Typically,:

• Education: Equivalent to a high school diploma or G.E.D.
• Experience: Three years of responsible work in technical maintenance and repair with the City of Palmdale.
• License: Valid California driver’s license and ability to be insured by the City.

Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of leadership principles, computer systems, record-keeping, advanced maintenance practices, safety codes, occupational hazards, and technical skills in various maintenance areas. Ability to lead, train, maintain records, operate tools, establish relationships, communicate effectively, interpret blueprints, and oversee water testing.

Working Conditions

Includes indoor and outdoor work, exposure to weather, chemicals, heights, noise, traffic, and heavy equipment. Must be available for on-call and emergency responses, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
