Job summary

Florida Department of Corrections seeks a Senior Maintenance Mechanic to perform and oversee complex auto repair and maintenance tasks at Gulf Correctional Institution. You will instruct and supervise inmates, ensure vehicle upkeep, safety and rehabilitation progress under the Automotive Equipment Maintenance Superintendent.

This on-site position requires reporting to the FDC office in the assigned area and involves hands-on repairs, planning, parts ordering, and documentation of inmate progress

Qualifications

  • Must possess a high school diploma or its equivalent.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in automotive repair and maintenance.
  • In accordance with Chapter 322, Florida Statutes and dependent upon assigned location, this position may require a Commercial Driver License. If the selected candidate is assigned to a location that requires a Commercial Driver License and does not possess a valid Commercial Driver License, he or she must obtain one, at his or her own expense, within 6 months of hire date.
  • Support of knowledge, skills, and abilities should be demonstrated on the application, in the education, in the work experience, in the work sample, in the interview and/or during reference checks.

  • Keeps records of inmate progress for rehabilitation and tracks vehicle maintenance costs and usage according to department rules.
  • Supervises inmates during work, maintaining control and safety following all procedures.

This open competitive advertisement is for a Career Service position located at Gulf Correctional Institution in Gulf County.

The purpose of this position is to perform and oversee complex auto repair and maintenance tasks while instructing and supervising inmates, ensuring vehicle upkeep, safety, and rehabilitation progress under the supervision of the Automotive Equipment Maintenance Superintendent.

This position is not a telework position and is required to report to the FDC office in the area it serves.

BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT
