Job summary

AV is seeking a senior machinist to lead technical execution and support ongoing R&D efforts at Kirtland AFB. You will master CNC and manual equipment, develop new machining techniques, and coordinate with contractors and government SMEs to produce intricate spacecraft components.

This role requires 7+ years in high-precision machining, mastery of Mastercam/SOLIDWORKS, and the ability to work autonomously within an IPT framework while adhering to safety and ITAR/EAR standards.

Qualifications

• Minimum 7 years of high-precision machining/R&D prototyping experience.
• Mastery of precision tooling and cutting equipment (multi-axis CNC mills, CNC lathes, manual lathes, drill presses).
• Ability to provide expert consultation within IPT framework to improve part manufacturability under deadlines.
• Advanced CAD/CAM proficiency with Mastercam/SOLIDWORKS; formal machine-tool training.

Responsibilities

• Lead analysis to identify optimal manufacturing solutions and implement procedures.
• Establish and refine machining techniques and shop standards for high-precision R&D.
• Plan sequencing, setup, and execution of complex multi-stage projects with minimal guidance.
• Coordinate with engineers and contractors to optimize workflows and milestones.
• Oversee measurement, testing, documentation, and corrective rework for defects.
• Own shop operations including hazardous material handling and preventative maintenance.
