Job summary

Nordson Corporation in the United States is seeking an experienced machinist to operate and set up CNC equipment, read blueprints, and ensure precision in production. You will contribute to quality control and maintain tooling with strong attention to detail.

The role requires the ability to troubleshoot on multi-axis machines, work with cross-functional teams, and lead training for new hires while upholding safety standards and orderly work areas.

Qualifications

  • Certificate in machine shop technology or related field; associate degree preferred.
  • 5+ years machining experience beyond post-secondary or trade school.
  • Recognized apprenticeship may be required.
  • Strong analytical and math skills; good communication and teamwork.

Responsibilities

  • Follow established work instructions to ensure safe, quality production.
  • Set up tool registers, mills, lathes, drills, Bridgeport, switches, offsets and complex CNC program editing computerized equipment for defined runs with limited supervision or assistance.
  • Read and edit CNC code and edit programs.
  • Run and set up multiple types of equipment such as Swiss tool machines and twin spindle lathes and multi axis VMCs.
  • Run and set up pallet changers and horizontal mills.
  • Maintain machinery and inventory of replacement parts.
  • Understand production flow and impact on plant metrics and customers.
  • Detect malfunctions and non-spec parts and provide corrections.
  • Communicate status to other departments.
  • Follow safety procedures and maintain a clean work environment.
  • Lead cross training and new hire training activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job description

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Follow established work instructions and company procedures to ensure safe, quality production.
  • Ability to set up tool registers, mills, lathes, drills, Bridgeport, switches, offsets and complex CNC program editing computerized equipment for defined runs with limited supervision or assistance.
  • Strong knowledge or reading code and editing programs
  • Ability to run and set up multiple types of equipment such as Swiss tool machines and twin spindle lathes and multi axis VMC’s.
  • Ability to run and set up pallet changers and horizontal mills.
  • Responsible for routine machinery maintenance and running visual tests on broken or worn parts while keeping inventory records of machine replacement parts.
  • Understands flow of production and how their production affects plant metrics and customers.
  • Ability to detect malfunctions in equipment and non-spec parts and provide corrections.
  • Fluent and well versed in blueprint interpretation and title block GD&T
  • Calculate dimensions and tolerances using mathematics and instruments such as calipers, gauges, indicators, micrometers, and other hand tools related to the occupation.
  • Ability to communicate to other departments status and updates of the machining group.
  • Follow safety procedures and guidelines in the assembly process.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Leads all cross training and new hire training activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Requirements
  • Follow established assembly procedures to ensure quality production.
  • Certificate in machine shop technology or technology/machinist - preferred associate degree
  • 5+ years of experience in a machining environment beyond post-secondary or trade school education required
  • A recognized apprenticeship may be required.
