Job summary

Nordson Corporation in South Carolina is seeking an experienced machinist to set up and operate CNC equipment, read blueprints with GD&T, and maintain quality production.

You will train new hires, support cross-functional teams, and help sustain a clean, safe work environment while meeting production metrics.

Responsibilities

  • Follow established work instructions and company procedures to ensure safe, quality production.
  • Set up tool registers, mills, lathes, drills, Bridgeport, switches, offsets and complex CNC program editing.
  • Read and interpret blueprints with GD&T accuracy.
  • Operate Swiss tool machines, twin spindle lathes and multi-axis VMCs.
  • Run pallet changers and horizontal mills.
  • Maintain routine machine maintenance and inventory records for parts.
  • Understand production flow and impact on plant metrics and customers.
  • Detect malfunctions and non-spec parts, implement corrections.
  • Communicate status and updates to other departments.
  • Adhere to safety procedures in assembly and maintain clean work environment.
  • Lead cross-training and new-hire training activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Follow established work instructions and company procedures to ensure safe, quality production.
  • Ability to set up tool registers, mills, lathes, drills, Bridgeport, switches, offsets and complex CNC program editing computerized equipment for defined runs with limited supervision or assistance.
  • Strong knowledge or reading code and editing programs
  • Ability to run and set up multiple types of equipment such as Swiss tool machines and twin spindle lathes and multi axis VMC’s.
  • Ability to run and set up pallet changers and horizontal mills.
  • Responsible for routine machinery maintenance and running visual tests on broken or worn parts while keeping inventory records of machine replacement parts.
  • Understands flow of production and how their production affects plant metrics and customers.
  • Ability to detect malfunctions in equipment and non-spec parts and provide corrections.
  • Fluent and well versed in blueprint interpretation and title block GD&T
  • Calculate dimensions and tolerances using mathematics and instruments such as calipers, gauges, indicators, micrometers, and other hand tools related to the occupation.
  • Ability to communicate to other departments status and updates of the machining group.
  • Follow safety procedures and guidelines in the assembly process.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Leads all cross training and new hire training activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education And Experience Requirements
  • Follow established assembly procedures to ensure quality production.
  • Certificate in machine shop technology or technology/machinist - preferred associate degree
  • 5+ years of experience in a machining environment beyond post-secondary or trade school education required
  • A recognized apprenticeship may be required.
