Job description

About This Role:

Under minimal supervision, the Senior Machinist programs 3/4/5 axis CNC equipment. Must develop and display confidence to manage optimum performance of CNC equipment focused on lights out machining. Strong understanding of the manufacturing process as it relates to complex machined components. Mentors other Machinists and works closely with the Tool Room leader to ensure the successful operation of the Tool Room. With an overall goal to reach maximum machine utilization.

Essential Job Functions/Tasks:

  • Produces general and complex machined components.
  • Programs 3/4/5 axis CNC equipment using Cam software, (Creo, MasterCam, and Power mill) independently.
  • Analyzes CAD models or engineering specifications to determine the appropriate tools and most efficient sequence of tool operations.
  • Tunes the CAD file or G-code to optimize machine tool operations/minimize waste and loads the instructions into the machine tool control system.
  • Understands and can operate Mazak/Micron/DMG controls.
  • Sets up and operates 3, 4 and 5 axis CNC milling and CNC Mill Turn Equipment.
  • Maximizes platens for multiple use projects utilizing 24/7 methodologies.
  • Advises Engineering team and Quality team on optimum methods to design parts for manufacturing.
  • Runs manual mills/lathes/grinders.
  • Performs quality assurance on all work to ensure accuracy.
  • Creates the schedule and allocates resources for projects in collaboration with the Tool Room Manager.
  • Manages projects / processes, working independently with limited supervision.

Education/Training Required and Preferred:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience Required and Preferred:

  • 7 years’ experience in CNC milling and or turning
  • Efficient and proficient in programming 3, 4 and 5 axis CNC milling and/or turning machines
  • Articulated ability to drive lights out methodologies.
  • Previous experience with producing complex mold components.

  • Advanced understanding and proficiency in use of all shop equipment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability.
  • Ability to read technical drawings.
  • Required to have own tools.
  • Ability to comprehend verbal and written instructions and to speak in English.
  • Strong proficiency in reading blueprints and schematics.
  • Understanding of plastic injection mold manufacturing.
  • Ability to perform machining work within close tolerances.
  • Experience using measuring tools and gauges.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate and coordinate efforts with employees across the organization.
  • Must be flexible and able to adapt to changing organizational needs.
  • Must have excellent attendance and housekeeping.

The hourly rate for this opportunity ranges from $38.00 to $47.00
