The Role

The Risk Automation ML team at Block detects, prevents, and reports fraudulent, illegal, and suspicious activity on CashApp and Square. We work globally with partners in Product, Engineering, and Operations to ensure a safe user experience while minimizing or eliminating bad activity on our platform.

We leverage Generative AI (specifically Large Language Models) and Machine Learning as part of our toolkit to fulfill our mission. Our systems monitor hundreds of billions of dollars in gross payment volume across traditional and blockchain networks, surfacing suspicious activity for review and proactively blocking payments when appropriate. We are also using generative AI to improve analyst workflows and case review tools, aiming to automate end-to-end workflows and eliminate manual reviews.

This role offers a significant opportunity to rethink and optimize Risk Operations at scale. It is an individual contributor role with leadership responsibilities, including owning and driving strategic roadmaps and collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders.

You Will

• Experiment and deploy AI copilot and self-driving solutions to improve analyst productivity or eliminate manual decision loops
• Manage the end-to-end pipeline, including API integrations, prompt tuning, model fine-tuning, metrics, evaluation, and integrating AI outputs into production systems
• Leverage LLMs to accelerate label generation, addressing cold start problems in classification tasks
• Build classification models to detect illegal use of the app across various products
• Utilize diverse datasets, including payment transactions, user graphs, unstructured text, and user profiles, to develop ML and AI models
• Collaborate with ML/AI engineers and platform services to deploy models and monitor performance
• Use Python ML stack, LLMs, Pytorch, Snowflake, Airflow, cloud services (GCP & AWS) to accomplish tasks

You Have

• 5+ years of experience in Machine Learning modeling, with full-stack ML experience preferred
• A Masters or higher in computer science, data science, operations research, applied math, or related fields
• 2+ years experience with AI engineering, LLMs, and NLP techniques is a strong plus
• End-to-end experience deploying ML/AI systems at scale, both batch and real-time
• Ability to own and influence programs with cross-functional impact
• A curious, growth-oriented mindset and ability to think in first principles for innovative solutions

• Zone A: USD $228,700 - USD $343,100
• Zone B: USD $217,300 - USD $325,900
• Zone C: USD $205,900 - USD $308,900
• Zone D: USD $194,500 - USD $291,700
