Unity’s Advertiser Growth team is hiring a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to lead the design of GenAI-driven creative generation, advertiser budget pacing, billing reliability at scale, and experimentation systems that improve marketplace outcomes.

Role Overview

In this role, you will provide technical leadership across systems that govern advertiser ROI, platform health, and financial integrity. The work spans architecture, backend integration, experimentation infrastructure, and data-driven iteration on spend and performance trade-offs.

Key Responsibilities

Design and improve advanced pacing controllers, including PID and probabilistic forecasting, to smooth spend across time zones and traffic spikes while maintaining stable marketplace delivery.
Drive backend integration of Generative AI models such as Diffusion and LLMs to automate the production of high-performing image and video assets aligned to campaign goals and formats.
Build and scale infrastructure for rapid experimentation, including A/B testing, switchback tests, and long-term holdouts, to evaluate how marketplace changes affect advertiser ROI and platform health.
Architect and operate high-throughput billing pipelines capable of processing billions of events with 100% accuracy, connecting real-time ad delivery with mission-critical financial reconciliation.
Analyze complex financial and marketplace datasets to optimize the trade-off between spend velocity and advertiser performance, using experimentation outcomes to tune pacing and billing logic.

Required Qualifications

Advanced degree in computer science or a relevant engineering field, or equivalent experience.
6+ years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years working on ads delivery systems.
Extensive experience building and operating large-scale, low-latency backend systems using Java, Go, or Scala.
Deep familiarity with budget control systems, feedback loops, or spend-prediction algorithms.
Proven experience creating or scaling experimentation platforms, including understanding of variance reduction, interference/network effects, and metric design in a marketplace environment.
A track record supporting mission-critical pipelines (billing, payments, or clearinghouses), where data precision, idempotency, and fault tolerance are essential.
Experience or strong interest in backend workflows to serve, scale, and store Generative AI models for creative asset generation.
Proficiency in real-time stream processing using Kafka, Flink, or Spark, specifically for event-based charging and real-time performance feedback.
Demonstrated ability to lead complex, multi-quarter technical roadmaps and mentor senior engineers in a high-growth environment.
