ServiceNow is building Voice AI experiences in Santa Clara. You will own language support end to end, from diagnostics to fixes, contributing to the core Voice Platform components such as speech recognition, conversation management, and speech generation.

ServiceNow is building and evolving Voice AI experiences that depend on strong linguistic and speech expertise, spanning recognition, conversation, and generation. In this onsite role in Santa Clara, you will help design and deliver Voice AI applications while owning language support end to end, from production diagnostics to practical fixes.

Salary range for this position is USD 161,300 - 274,200 per year. The role requires 4+ years of experience and a graduate background in a linguistics or cognition-related field.

What you’ll do

• Contribute to the design, development, and implementation of Voice AI applications, applying linguistic and speech expertise to the core Voice Platform components including Speech Recognition, Conversation Management, and Speech Generation.
• Own language support end to end: add new languages and locales and maintain language-specific instructions, normalization, and pronunciation rules.
• Analyze complex speech problems across a range of languages, accents, and dialects.
• Collaborate with other linguists to map the problem space for specific languages.
• Diagnose language and speech failures in production calls, trace them to the responsible component, and drive the fix with the team.
• Partner with engineers to identify and solve the right linguistic problems, and contribute code that supports the user experience.
• Partner with product managers to understand customer use cases and linguistic challenges, and help build for their success.
• Design linguistic experiments that inform technology choices, such as STT/TTS models and vendors, for Voice AI applications.
• Build tooling, with assistance from AI, to analyze linguistic problems at scale.
• Mentor colleagues and support knowledge-sharing across linguistics and Voice AI engineering disciplines.

What you bring

• Master’s or PhD in Linguistics, Cognitive Science, or a related field.
• Specialization in phonetics, acoustics, psycholinguistics, or cognitive science with applied or interdisciplinary focus (not purely theoretical linguistics).
• 4+ years of experience designing large-scale experiments and conducting quantitative research projects in an industry setting or applied research.
• Hands‑on experience building Voice AI applications.
• Development experience with Python or similar languages.
• Deep knowledge of the structure of multiple languages; fluency in a language other than English is a plus.
• Ability to clearly explain linguistic findings to engineers, product managers, and customers.
• Experience evaluating speech recognition and speech synthesis systems is considered an asset.
• Experience building applications on top of LLMs, including prompt engineering, is considered an asset.
• Self‑starter, outcome‑driven mindset with ability to work with many stakeholders.
• Critical thinking about AI integration in day‑to‑day work, including hands‑on experience with AI tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or Windsurf.
