Job summary

Pipeline Design and Engineering in Tempe, AZ is seeking a mechanical designer with at least 3 years of SolidWorks (or combined CAD) experience in machine design, including motors, actuators, pneumatics, sensors, and PLCs. A degree is not required; practical skills and project results matter most.

You will design equipment, assist with R&D, and produce manufacturing drawings and docs. Work primarily in the Tempe office with occasional home days.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years SolidWorks or combined CAD in machine design projects.
• Engineering degree not required; emphasis on skills and capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Design mechanical systems for new equipment using SolidWorks with motion control and automation awareness.
• Incorporate OTS hardware and automation equipment into new designs.
• Design for machining, 3D printing, sheet metal, weldments, or plastic injection molding.
• Perform basic analyses of parts, assemblies, and systems.
• Bench top testing and assembly of prototypes.
• Create documentation including drawings and reports.
• Participate in design reviews with customers, vendors, and team members.
• Experience with PLCs, C++, LabVIEW, or Python is a plus.

Who We're Looking For

Engineers who have a minimum of 3years of Solidworks (or combined Solidworks and other CAD) experience, and a minimum of 3years working professionally (i.e. not as a student) within the field of machine design (motors, linear actuators, pneumatics, sensors, PLCs, etc). An engineering or bachelor's degree is not required. We are more concerned with your skills and capability than we are the college you attended (or didn’t).

Responsibilities are as follows:

• Design mechanical systems for new custom equipment, fixtures, and machines using Solidworks (must have working knowledge of motion control and automation hardware such as motors, actuators, air cylinders, sensors, etc, as well as a broad working knowledge of automation hardware suppliers)
• Have working knowledge of and ability to implement OTS hardware (e.g. toggle clamps, spring plungers, shoulder screws, dowel pins, gears, etc) and automation equipment (e.g. motors, linear actuators, air cylinders, sensors, vision systems, PLCs, etc) into new equipment designs
• Utilize working knowledge and experience to design for the following manufacturing processes (in order of frequency): machining, 3D printing, sheetmetal and/or weldments, & plastic injection molding
• Basic engineering analyses of parts, assemblies, and systems
• Bench top testing & assembly of prototype parts and assemblies
• Project-specific R&D
• Create documentation (manufacturing drawings, reports, etc)
• Design reviews & meetings with customers, vendors, & other Pipeline team members
• Experience programming (e.g. PLCs, C++, LabVIEW, Python, etc) for automation is a big plus (but not mandatory)
