Charles Industries, An Amphenol Company, located in Schaumburg, IL, is seeking a Senior Design Engineer LV Switchgear to act as the senior technical authority for electrical architecture, design governance, validation strategy, and lifecycle support of <1kV LV power distribution products. The role manages multiple projects and advances DFM/DFT/DFR/DFS and VAVE initiatives.

Qualifications include a bachelor’s in electrical engineering, 5+ years of related experience, and knowledge of UL/ETL processes; a master’s degree is preferred and PE certification desirable. US work authorization required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required.
• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering preferred.
• PE Certification desirable.
• Experience with UL508A panel boards and VFD is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Drive engineering decisions to optimize cost, performance, manufacturability, schedule, quality, reliability, and safety.
• Represent engineering in customer reviews and architecture discussions.
• Lead DFM/DFT/DFR/DFS and VAVE initiatives.
• Define and oversee electrical validation strategies including dielectric, impulse, temperature-rise, and arc-flash testing.
• Support commissioning, field troubleshooting, and corrective actions.
• Lead risk reviews, root-cause investigations and continuous improvement.
• Mentor engineers and develop reusable standards, guides, and templates.
• Develop LV single-line diagrams, equipment layouts, cable schedules, tray routing, and duct bank designs.
• Specify LV switchgear, MCCs, distribution boards, transformers, bus ducts, VFDs, UPS, and standby gensets; prepare area classifications and NEC/CEC compliance.
• Lead power system design using busbars, cables, and wire harnesses.
• Assist in other duties as required.
