Job summary

illumifin Corporation is a leading provider of long-term care insurance services and business process outsourcing in the insurance industry. The Senior Underwriter will review documents to determine compliance with guidelines and will mentor junior underwriters.

The role requires analysis of medical data, risk assessment, and timely decision-making. The compensation starts at $70,000 and can increase with experience and qualifications; remote work is offered.

Qualifications

• BA, BS, RN or equivalent insurance industry experience.
• Minimum of 3 years LTC/Life underwriting experience including working with agents.
• Strong command of Medical Terminology.
• Typing speed of 50 WPM or better.
• Good analytical abilities.
• Ability to work independently as well as in a team.

Responsibilities

• Review application and supporting documentation to ensure accuracy and completeness.
• Using established protocols, analyze risk and ensure decisions are consistent with client and corporate guidelines.
• Approve, decline or rate the application within the established criteria, using clinical judgment.
• Interpret medical information (medication lists, medical records, cognitive test scores, MIB and prescription results) and document findings.
• Assess risk of Long-Term Care using lifestyle, medical and cognitive information, processing at least 50 cases weekly.
• Demonstrate effective communication and customer service with applicants and clients; prepare responses to special needs letters.
• Mentor lower level underwriters and assist with daily processing per established protocols.
