Qualifications

• Ph.D. in CS, ML, NLP, Stats, or related field, or equivalent industry experience.
• 6+ years in an applied research or ML role.
• Expert in deep learning and modern NLP, incl. transformer architectures.
• Experience with LLM development: fine-tuning, instruction tuning, and prompt engineering.
• Proficiency in Python and ML frameworks, with production deployment experience.
• Strong understanding of distributed data processing (e.g., Spark) and large-scale experiments.
• Ability to communicate research outcomes and tradeoffs to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Architect, design, and deploy LLM-powered systems across Apple’s services ecosystem.
• Lead research in large-scale representation learning, semantic modeling, and RAG.
• Develop embeddings and model architectures for high-dimensional data.
• Drive LLM fine-tuning, safety alignment, and optimization strategies.
• Explore parameter-efficient adaptation and advanced inference techniques.
• Collaborate with engineering, product, and design to translate problems into robust ML systems.
• Build prototypes and production-grade solutions for scalable reasoning over text and signals.
• Contribute to AI leadership through patents, publications, and internal initiatives.
• Mentor researchers to elevate experimentation, code quality, and communication.
