Job summary

Ovation Heartwood Preserve in Omaha, NE is hiring a Cook for our senior living dining team. This full-time role runs Friday–Tuesday, 11:30 AM–7:30 PM, with a wage of $18.50–$21.00 per hour.

Prior cook/line cook/prep or healthcare food service experience is preferred, and teamwork in a fast-paced kitchen is essential. You will prepare meals, ensure food safety per ServSafe, adapt menus for dietary needs, and support daily kitchen operations.

Qualifications

• 2-3 years of Cook experience: Hospital or Healthcare facility experience preferred.
• Current ServSafe Manager certification (or willingness to obtain within 30 days of hire).
• Ability to read and calculate recipes and production sheets, and monitor cooking timing.
• Requires a current Food Handlers card issued by local Health Department.
• Active CPR/BLS Certification and ongoing maintenance during employment.
• Knowledge of high standards of food preparation, sanitation, and storage with on-the-job training.
• Demonstrates initiative and sound judgment in setting up meals and utilizing leftovers.
• Competent in operating kitchen equipment.
• Interpersonal skills to collaborate with department workers, supervisors, and other departments.

Responsibilities

• Execute daily menus for breakfast, lunch, and dinner with appealing presentation and proper serving temperature.
• Prepare alternative menu options and snacks for residents with changing appetites.
• Adapt recipes for dietary needs (low-sodium, diabetic-friendly, vegetarian, texture-modified).
• Accommodate dining needs of memory care residents with appropriate foods and dining times.
• Maintain a calm, structured, and inviting dining environment to encourage socialization.
• Follow ServSafe guidelines for safety, handling, and storage of food.
• Keep kitchen, prep areas, and dishwashing stations clean and sanitized after each shift.
• Monitor and log food and refrigerator temperatures daily for quality control.
• Maintain resident-first focus, gather feedback, and tailor meals to preferences.
• Collaborate with Dietary/Dining Services Director and nursing staff on care plans.
• Maintain high standards of cleanliness, storage, and equipment maintenance.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.
