Job summary

Merrill Gardens is seeking a dedicated Senior Living Cook to prepare fresh, nutritious meals for our residents from 11:00am to 7:30pm. You will follow established recipes, ensure timely plating, and maintain high food quality in a clean kitchen.

Ideal candidates have at least 2 years of quality food prep, a HS diploma or GED, and culinary training is preferred. ServSafe within 60 days and HACCP knowledge are a plus. Join a family-owned company with growth opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare breakfast, lunch, dinner, and special event meals as directed by the Executive Chef.
  • Follow established recipes and batch-cooking procedures to ensure fresh, high-quality meals.
  • Ensure food is prepared in a timely manner and dishes are properly plated and presented.
  • Meet regularly with the Executive Chef to discuss upcoming menu planning.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary kitchen and complete cleaning duties.
  • Follow food handling, storage, and HACCP procedures and document temperatures.

Our Cooks are responsible for:
  • Preparing breakfast, lunch, dinner, and special event meals as directed by the Executive Chef.
  • Preparing all food items according to established recipes and procedures, using batch-cooking methods when appropriate to ensure fresh, high-quality meals.
  • Ensuring food is prepared in a timely manner and inspecting completed dishes for proper plating and presentation.
  • Meeting regularly with the Executive Chef to discuss upcoming menu preparation.
  • Maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary kitchen by cleaning and sanitizing work areas and equipment before and after use and completing assigned cleaning duties.
  • Following proper food handling, storage, and food safety procedures, including maintaining required temperature charts, records, and food production documentation.
  • Providing excellent customer service to residents and Team Members and contributing to a positive team environment.
If you are someone with:
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in quality food preparation.
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Culinary Training Certification or a degree in Culinary Arts preferred.
  • Previous senior living experience is a plus.
  • Ability to obtain ServSafe Certification as required by local or state agencies within 60 days.
  • Knowledge of the Seven Steps of HACCP.
Physical Requirements:

This role requires frequent standing, walking, and manual handling of materials up to 50 lbs. Regular bending, lifting, and reaching are also part of daily responsibilities. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
