Job summary

Merrill Gardens is hiring a Senior Living Cook to prepare breakfast, lunch, dinner, and special event meals for residents. You will follow established recipes, use batch-cooking methods for freshness, and ensure timely plating with attention to presentation.

Join our team to help maintain a clean, safe kitchen and support a positive dining experience. Previous senior living experience is a plus, with ServSafe readiness within 60 days.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in quality food preparation.
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Culinary Training Certification or a degree in Culinary Arts preferred.
  • Previous senior living experience is a plus.
  • Ability to obtain ServSafe Certification within 60 days.
  • Knowledge of the Seven Steps of HACCP.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing breakfast, lunch, dinner, and special event meals as directed by the Executive Chef.
  • Preparing all food items according to established recipes and procedures, using batch-cooking methods when appropriate to ensure fresh, high-quality meals.
  • Ensuring food is prepared in a timely manner and inspecting completed dishes for proper plating and presentation.
  • Meeting regularly with the Executive Chef to discuss upcoming menu preparation.
  • Maintaining a clean, safe, and sanitary kitchen by cleaning and sanitizing work areas and equipment before and after use and completing assigned cleaning duties.
  • Following proper food handling, storage, and food safety procedures, including maintaining required temperature charts, records, and food production documentation.
  • Providing excellent customer service to residents and Team Members and contributing to a positive team environment.

Physical Requirements:

This role requires frequent standing, walking, and manual handling of materials up to 50 lbs. Regular bending, lifting, and reaching are also part of daily responsibilities. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
