Discovery Senior Living seeks an Accounting Manager to own the full-cycle accounting for a portfolio of senior living communities and to lead a two-person offshore accounting team that supports the close. This working manager role suits a CPA‑oriented candidate who has moved up from public accounting and is now guiding a small team.

The role requires 5+ years of accounting experience, strong US GAAP knowledge, and advanced Excel skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting (Accounting major required).
• Active CPA license a plus.
• 2+ years of public accounting experience a plus — audit or assurance in a CPA firm, ideally with real estate or senior living clients.
• 1–2 years of experience as an Accounting Manager or in an equivalent role with direct review and supervisory responsibility.
• 5+ years of total progressive accounting experience.
• Strong working knowledge of US GAAP and accrual accounting.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel — pivot tables, lookups, SUMIFS/index-match, large-data reconciliation.
• Demonstrated ownership of a full month-end close and multi-entity ledgers.
• Ability to work onsite in Dallas five days per week.

Responsibilities

• Directly manage two offshore accounting staff: set daily and monthly priorities, assign work, and hold the team to the close calendar.
• Serve as the primary liaison between US leadership and the offshore team — accountable for output, not just activity.
• Review offshore-prepared journal entries, reconciliations, schedules, and draft financials before reaching Controller or ownership.
• Structure work around limited time-zone overlap with clear handoffs and defined turnaround expectations.
• Build and maintain SOPs, checklists, and close calendars so the process is not memory-dependent.
• Train and develop the team on senior living accounting specifics — census, care-level revenue, resident A/R.
• Conduct performance feedback and recommend scope expansion or headcount adjustments as portfolio grows.
• Own the full month-end close for an assigned portfolio: journal entries, accruals, reclasses, revenue schedules, intercompany.
• Prepare and review accrual-basis financial statements and variance analyses.
• Ensure balance sheet reconciliations, bank reconciliations, and item clearance.
• Oversee revenue streams, census data, and resident billing; monitor A/R aging and bad debt reserves.
• Coordinate budgeting, reporting with partners, and audit support; maintain controls for offshore team.
