Responsibilities
Nautilus Insurance is seeking a Senior Claims Litigation Specialist focusing on construction defect claims.
The Senior Litigation Specialist’s role includes handling advanced-level, primarily litigated, commercial third-party general liability losses in a “paperless” environment. Effective verbal and written communication skills are essential.
- Reviews and sets up new loss assignments promptly, in line with Department guidelines and best practices.
- Establishes initial loss and expense reserves, regularly evaluating their adequacy and accuracy.
- Analyzes policy language and loss facts to determine coverage.
- Drafts complex coverage correspondence, including reservation of rights and disclaimers, complying with state laws.
- Prepares detailed correspondence to insureds, claimants, attorneys, agents, and regulators.
- Manages litigated claim files from inception to closure, including coverage, liability, and damage investigations, and executing appropriate plans of action.
- Documents all claim activity clearly, including strategies and exit plans.
- Demonstrates advanced coverage analysis, investigation, evaluation, and negotiation skills.
- Manages outside vendors, including defense counsel, experts, and adjusters.
- Participates in discussions and presents loss facts to peers and management.
- Prepares regular detailed reports, including Large Loss Reports.
- Monitors caseloads using various resources.
- Maintains required state adjuster licenses and continuing education.
- Serves as a technical resource, mentoring and sharing knowledge within the Department.
- Provides training to interns and others as needed.
- Participates in projects and initiatives across departments and companies.
- Communicates effectively with management and other departments.
- Attends seminars and training, providing feedback to peers and management.

Qualifications
- At least twenty (20) years of insurance experience, with a strong background in commercial general liability claims examination and coverage analysis.
- Intermediate knowledge of Windows-based programs, including Word, Excel, and Email.
- Ability to analyze and interpret business periodicals, journals, procedures, or regulations.
- Skilled in writing reports, business correspondence, and manuals.
- Effective in presenting information and responding to questions from various groups.
- Capable of responding to inquiries or complaints from customers, agencies, or the business community.
- Excellent verbal communication skills over the phone.
