Job description

About: Allia Group is a healthcare-focused litigation finance group that funds litigation against insurers for underpaying healthcare providers, managing the due diligence, data analytics, underwriting, and litigation. Allia Group has a substantial track record of successfully litigating and resolving out-of-network cases. The Company’s case history and proprietary litigation model provide a barometer from which it determines how to litigate, what strategies will be most effective, and where to accelerate the claims-resolution process.

Allia Group’s mission is to change the bad behavior of health insurers by serving as the platform to litigate healthcare provider claims at scale and improve the economics of healthcare for providers. Allia Group is responding to the ongoing decline in reimbursement and the resulting reduction in access to quality care by creating a novel strategy of purchasing underpaid claims from the providers and fully orchestrating litigation against the insurance carriers.

We are recruiting a lawyer with 5 to 15+ years of litigation experience who is excited about litigating against payers and taking on more responsibility in a non-law firm environment with a company poised for growth. Candidates require hands-on litigation experience with a desire to gain significant responsibility and experience in a business environment. This is a remote role with occasional travel to headquarters in Woodmere, New York.

The Senior Litigation Counsel will litigate and manage various claims against health care managed care providers. Candidates must have excellent writing and analytical skills, and must have experience investigating case facts and applying legal analysis to novel situations. In addition, the successful candidate would have experience successfully resolving disputes at all phases of litigation. It is a strong benefit for the candidate to have experience with healthcare providers and/or health insurance companies.

This is an exciting opportunity for innovative and substantive legal work with a sophisticated health care litigation finance firm where your input will have a direct effect on the Company's success. The Senior Litigation Counsel will work closely with Allia Group’s CEO and General Counsel, and will be responsible for a wide array of duties, including:

• Managing and leading a portfolio of litigation matters across the U.S., including developing strategy, overseeing case progression, and driving favorable outcomes.

• Directly litigating and managing a significant portion of the Company’s docket of disputes. This includes handling certain matters from inception through resolution, including witness interviews, depositions, motion practice, pre-trial dispute resolution, and first-chairing arbitrations and trials.

• Collaborating with outside counsel on certain disputes,, and recruiting new counsel in certain markets as necessary.

• Developing and implementing scalable litigation processes and procedures to support the growth of the legal function and business.

• Managing legal budgets and outside counsel spend with a focus on efficiency, transparency, and value.

• Refining litigation strategies by jurisdiction and carrier to improve outcomes and optimize portfolio performance.

• Offering practical, business-focused legal advice on complex and evolving legal issues.

• Staying current on relevant laws, regulations, and trends.

Qualifying Competencies & Skills:

· Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and admission to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.

· 5-15+ years of litigation experience with a proven record of success. Prior experience in healthcare-specific litigation is preferred but not required.

· Demonstrated ability to lead all aspects of complex litigation from inception through trial or arbitration.

· Strong background in creative litigation strategy; experience with healthcare reimbursement is highly desirable, but not required.

· Proven experience litigating and/or managing litigation across both state and federal courts throughout the United States.

· Exposure to or understanding of the healthcare revenue cycle is a plus.

· Possesses exceptional judgment, analytical capability, and a proactive, “roll-up-your-sleeves” approach to problem-solving at a quickly growing company.
