Job description

Fluet is a boutique law firm devoted to the national security industry: aerospace, defense, intelligence and dual-use technology. Like our clients, we are dynamic, creative and entrepreneurial, and we practice law in the fast-paced and agile manner that our clients require to guide their high growth businesses to success in an industry replete with risks and rewards.

Do you like writing long legal memos, covering the law of all 50 states?

Do you like to learn by reading law books or law review articles?

Do you like doing one thing every day for the same partner?

Are you looking for a place where the work is easy?

If you answered "yes" to any of the above, we are not the firm for you.

But if you want to be mentored by partners committed to training the next generation of the firm's leadership; if you are intellectually curious, but not academic; if you want to counsel in a world where the answers are often unclear, but your clients need actionable advice now; and if you want to advocate for mission-focused clients in high-stakes disputes and sensitive investigations where the consequences are real,

We offer a full range of services in our practice areas:

  • Government Contracts
  • Corporate + Transactional
  • Litigation + Investigations
  • International Trade
Position Description

As Senior Associate in our Litigation + Investigations practice, you will represent clients across a broad range of complex disputes and high-stakes matters, including commercial litigation, government contracts litigation, government investigations, internal investigations, and regulatory enforcement actions. You will be part of a dynamic and collegial team with opportunities to work directly with clients and to expand and shape your own practice.

In this role, you will:

  • Handle litigation matters in federal and state courts
  • Draft and argue motions, briefs, and other key filings
  • Manage discovery, including document strategy, review, and production
  • Support and lead responses to government investigations, subpoenas, and enforcement actions
  • Conduct and assist with internal investigations, including witness interviews and fact development
  • Prepare investigative reports, presentations, and client-facing analyses
  • Advise clients on risk mitigation and compliance in connection with disputes and investigations
  • Prepare clients for testimony before agencies, inspectors general, and congressional committees
  • Participate in hearings, mediations, and arbitrations

Experience as a lead associate with substantial responsibility in federal and state court litigation, administrative proceedings, and alternative dispute resolution is essential, along with experience handling or supporting government and internal investigations.

Additionally, experience with government investigations and inquiries (including inspector general, agency, or congressional matters), employment-related disputes (such as whistleblower and EEO claims), and compliance reviews or audits involving regulatory regimes (e.g., FAR/DFARS and ITAR) is desirable.

A successful candidate will possess excellent analytical, research, and writing skills; strong oral advocacy and communication abilities; sound judgment in high-pressure situations; an ability to manage multiple matters as a lead associate in a fast-paced environment; and consistent attention to detail.

This position involves direct interaction with clients and responsibility for managing matters independently, including developing litigation strategy, coordinating responses to investigations, and contributing meaningfully to litigation and risk mitigation efforts.

Qualifications
  • Must be a team player who can work both independently and collaboratively
  • Strong interpersonal and technical skills, with track record of litigation success
  • Ability to lead teams of attorneys
  • 4-8+ years of experience in litigation, investigations, or related disputes work
  • Admission (or waive-in eligibility) to Virginia Bar
Preferred Qualifications
  • Top 25 Law School or top graduate
  • Judicial Clerkship (particularly in federal court)
  • Experience serving as lead associate on complex business litigation or regulatory/compliance-driven disputes in highly regulated industries
  • Experience with government investigations, congressional inquiries, or white collar matters
  • DoD/National Security background
  • Full-time work experience with a federal contractor, government agency, or nationally recognized litigation/investigations practice
