Job summary

Arista Networks is seeking a Linux Kernel Senior/Lead Software Engineer to advance EOS kernel features, improve performance, and align with upstream Linux contributions. You will work within a collaborative Linux Kernel team handling kernel development for EOS, and coordinate with hardware vendors to ensure kernel compatibility.

This full-time role demands deep C expertise, strong kernel experience, and the ability to mentor junior engineers.

Qualifications

BS/MS/PhD with required experience as listed (8+ years for BS, 6+ for MS, 3+ for PhD) or equivalent.
Expert in C; knowledge of C++ and Python desirable.
Hands-on Linux kernel debugging and feature development experience.
Familiarity with Linux kernel architecture and upstream patching processes.
Understanding of IP networking principles and modern software engineering practices.
Strong problem solving and independent work ability.
Clear communication and documentation of designs and implementations.
Familiarity with x86 and ARM CPU architectures.

Responsibilities

Track Linux Kernel developments and identify features for Arista products.
Develop and maintain EOS Kernel features and tests using C, C++, and Python; build automated tests.
Collaborate with hardware engineers and vendors to qualify kernel-dependent hardware components.
Contribute features back to the mainline with the Kernel community.
Lead kernel projects and mentor engineers across teams.
Support customers and internal teams to diagnose and fix kernel-related issues.
