Job description

SENIOR LIGHTING DESIGNER – FOR IN PERSON DENVER

We are seeking a talented Senior Lighting Designer for in person work based out of our Denver office, minimum 10 years of Architectural Lighting Design experience.

About AKLD

AKLD Lighting Design is an award‑winning architectural lighting design firm. Celebrating 32 years as a certified Woman‑Owned business, we are passionate about the art and science of lighting. While our project types are diverse – from hospitality to corporate, from luxury residential to houses of worship – the common thread is a passion for design excellence achieved through collaboration, trust, and an innate drive to elevate the world around us through outstanding lighting design. Our office vigorously supports professional growth while focusing on a balance of work and personal time.

In this role

In this role you will be responsible for establishing lighting design and controls concepts and methods, acting as liaison with the client and project team, managing projects, overseeing designers, and facilitating all aspects of lighting design and documentation. Our ideal candidate has extensive lighting industry experience, is well respected in the design community, and thrives on guiding and mentoring other designers.

Your key responsibilities include:
  • Develop core lighting design concepts on projects and clearly convey these through use of presentations and other graphic tools
  • Work with the project team to develop both the artistic and technical aspects of the lighting design, from concept design through construction administration
  • Oversee development of lighting and controls design documentation, including luminaire specifications, photometrics, mockups, drawings, details, and controls selections
  • Serve as primary point of contact for the client, maintaining key relationships
  • Act as liaison between in‑house team and project design team, including architects, interior designers, landscape architects, electrical engineers, and contractors
  • Mentor other in‑house team members, including Lighting Designers and Lighting Specialists
  • Maintain design vision within the constraints of budget and schedule
  • Direct in‑house team’s priorities for time management across multiple projects, sometimes with overlapping deadlines
  • Manage multiple projects through effective communication and collaboration both in‑house and with the broader design team
  • Support marketing efforts and assist in determining appropriate fees and workplans
  • Contribute to AKLD’s knowledge base across market sectors, including sustainability
