Overview

Senior Life Underwriter – Remote, United States. This position is with Transamerica. Minimum education: Bachelor Degree. Open to candidates seeking opportunities in Life Insurance underwriting within the Finance field.

Job Responsibilities

Job Family: Underwriting. Transamerica has provided life insurance solutions for more than 100 years and aims to help people live better today and plan for tomorrow. The Senior Underwriter will be responsible for effective risk selection of reviewed cases, with frequent interaction with Underwriting, New Business and distribution groups. Approval authority up to $1,500,000 – $2,500,000 through all tables and all ages; capable of evaluating up to $3,500,000.

  • Demonstrate competency across responsibilities of Underwriter and Intermediate Underwriter.
  • Influential within the immediate team and with other underwriting peers.
  • Show initiative, productive without close direction; support team and underwriting department.
  • Strong organizational skills and awareness of whom to contact for answers; understand role and impact on broader team and organization.
  • Willingness to question established practices professionally.
  • Proactively seek process improvements and volunteer to lead/execute department or functional projects.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 4 years of life or health underwriting experience.
  • Skilled in AWD or similar systems, MS Office, risk assessment, and strong platform skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two or more LOMA classes; working toward FLMI designation. Completion of AALU Certification; working toward FALU.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to meet high productivity demands for self and staff.
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a remote, virtual team setting.

Compensation and Benefits

We offer a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits (including a 401(k) plan with no vesting requirements and a fully funded pension plan with company contribution of 5% of base salary), remote work, and additional benefits.

Compensation: The salary for this position is generally $75K to $90K. This estimate considers candidate qualifications, operational needs, and applicable law. Bonus Eligibility: typical annual bonus based on the Company Bonus Plan/Individual Performance; at Company discretion at 10%.
