Job summary

Gensler's Boston office seeks a Lab Planner to join the Cities Health Flex Studio. You will apply deep expertise in pre-design, programming, and laboratory planning for diverse facilities, including research labs, clinical spaces, vivarium, and other GXP environments.

You will collaborate across regions, shape design innovation, mentor staff, and help deliver life sciences environments that balance performance with sustainability.

Qualifications

• Licensed architect with a bachelor's degree or higher in Architecture.
• 8–15 years of experience with scientific teams preferred.
• Proficiency in Revit is required.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with clients, scientists, researchers, and end-users to develop laboratory planning strategies for retrofit, renovation, and new construction projects.
• Provide innovative, sustainability-focused lab planning solutions supporting project goals.
• Act as a technical advisor in academic, clinical, forensic, government, public health, or R&D markets.
• Oversee technical documentation, perform quality control reviews, and develop plans, elevations, and details.
• Direct project documentation per checklists, Gensler standards, and QA/QC protocols.
• Manage day-to-day client and project activities from initial planning through construction.
• Lead relationships with clients, contractors, regulatory agencies, engineers, and consultants.
• Contribute to materials communicating Life Sciences Practice Area portfolios and processes.
• Partner with leaders to identify and recruit top talent.
• Manage midsize to large project teams and mentor junior staff.
