Job summary

AlphaX is seeking a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) to lead HVAC and mechanical design for diverse facilities including commercial, healthcare, institutional, and municipal projects.

You will oversee concepts through final deliverables, work with architects and contractors, and serve as Engineer of Record where assigned. Extensive direct design involvement and strong coordination across disciplines are essential.

Qualifications

• Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• 5+ years of mechanical engineering experience; 10+ years preferred.
• Direct HVAC and mechanical MEP design experience in commercial, healthcare, institutional, municipal, or comparable facilities.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit MEP, or equivalent mechanical design tools.
• Experience producing and reviewing engineering calculations, construction drawings, specifications, and equipment schedules.
• Understanding of building system integration and coordination across engineering disciplines.

Responsibilities

• Design HVAC and mechanical systems tailored to building needs and codes.
• Calculate loads, evaluate ventilation, select equipment, and assess energy performance.
• Develop mechanical plans, specs, equipment schedules, calculations, and construction docs.
• Serve as Engineer of Record when assigned; oversee technical quality and decisions.
• Review submittals, shop drawings, RFIs, and proposed changes for compliance.
• Perform site visits and field evaluations to verify design intent and identify issues.
• Troubleshoot design conflicts and field conditions while maintaining performance and compliance.
• Evaluate alternative designs to improve cost, energy use, reliability, and maintainability.
• Support commissioning, inspections, testing, and final handover.
